One of my favorite memoirs in a long time! Elton John is just a wild, absurd, and wonderful human. I was reminded what an impact he made on music and culture in general. I also watched Rocketman and highly recommend the pairing. One complete highlight of the audiobook is the fabulous narration by Taron Egerton. Having played Elton in the film, and having such a close friendship with him now, you can feel the warmth in his storytelling. He also simply nails narration and I hope he takes on many audiobooks in the future.

I absolutely loved this book. Elton John is such a cool guy and this book kept Me interested the whole time I was reading it. I loved learning about him and now I just really want to read another autobiography/biography. the amount of times that I cried in this book was crazy.
not only intensely self-aware and real but also just incredibly funny. elton john you fucking legend
I've gotten more into biographies in the last couple of years so I've read a fair few, but this one is definitely a standout. Elton doesn't seem to have shied away from talking about any aspect of his life, as crazy and dark as some of that has been. There are too many interesting moments in this biography to mention, but I was especially moved by his description of meeting- and being saddened by- Elvis Presley, and the way he reflects on meeting David and starting a family. I both read this and also listened to the audiobook, and I have to say the audiobook is one of the best I've listened to. Admittedly my love for Taron Egerton was a contributing factor in my deciding to listen to the book as well, but he genuinely is a fantastic narrator, and he adds a whole other layer of passion and humour and heart into the story. So, not only do I recommend this autobiography, I really recommend listening to the audiobook version as well. Elton really has led a fascinating and at times unbelievable life, so it's pretty cool to be able to hear his reflections of it in his own words.

I’ve always loved Elton John, but since watching Rocketman I’ve been extra invested in learning more about this man that I actually knew nothing about. I knew he had bangers but I didn’t know anything about his personal life. I really enjoyed his writing - his personality comes through clearly and he’s just a good writer in general. The first half was my favorite part - the beginning, the trials and tribulations of making a name for himself. The second half is where it lost a star for me though. I think I’m just too jaded when it comes to rich people talking about rich people things - but even so, Elton is pretty introspective and acknowledges his privileges. I guess what I’m saying is that I’d read a whole book solely about his life in the 60s/70s.
