4.5/5⭐️ Loved this book. It was the perfect one to read after not loving my last read. I love grumpy/sunshine and everytime I read a book with that trope I always fall in love with the fmc and Winnie was no exception. I loved her, how strong she was and how she always made light of situations. She was always there for people around her and just knew how to listen. I feel like her silence and bits of advice is so much better than someone shoving what they thing you should do down your throat. I also loved how Dex was grumpy but such an awesome dad. He was always there for them and you could tell he loved them so much. I loved how gradually he broke down his walls for Winnie and let her in. He was kind to her and cared for her even if he didn’t want to admit it.
I don’t read too much age gap romances, cause I just don’t find any I like, but also because I hate that one of them always mentioning how young the other one is. While that happened a bit in this book, I felt this age gap was done really well and they were both mature. Winnie was so good with the kids and so smart. She knew was she wanted and most importantly what she deserved. She knew why she jumped into relationships quickly and seeked a better understanding for it. You honestly didn’t tell at times that there was an age gap. She was so mature and most of the conversations they had were important and honestly she ended up making more sense than him….
This book did have a break up but it was more understandable. And Winnie held her ground. She was strong and didn’t go back to Dex after a couple im sorry which made me love her even more. He really had to grovel for it (as he should) and you really saw the change in him. It was realistic in the way that you wouldn’t want to be with him after what he said, but all he did to win her would make anyone go back to him. It was a quick breakup, to a couple apologies, to them back together. Which if a book is gonna have that 70% conflict, im gonna need a lot of groveling from the mmc. He had a lot of trauma and just issues from his childhood and his family between his mother and his father and he always letting him back to hurt Dex and his sister and her mother. This made him very closed off. He didn’t want to be the kind of dad his father was to his girls, but he quickly realized he didn’t want to be his mother even more than that. He didn’t want that big heart because he saw first hand that the bigger heart you have the bigger it can be crushed. After his divorce he didn’t want to go through that again. He didn’t think he could give his all to any women, which made him swear off because if you can’t give any, why even try half. At the end he had to heal himself and his issues with love and being alone before he could truly be with her and love her the way she deserved. Which is more important to me than anything. You need to love yourself and heal yourself before you can be there for yourself and that I respected so much.
Their epilogue was just so perfect for them and made me so incredibly happy. I just know Winnie is gonna treat those girls so good and they love her so much. They are so happy that their dad is loved which warmed my heart.
Usually when I get individual book recommendations for books in a series like this I only read the one. I loved this authors writing so much and the way they did the chemistry between Ellie and Gianni that I might just have to read that one as well.

“i was scared of being lost and lonely without her. that i was going to miss her so much it hurt. that somehow i’d fallen in love with her, when that had been the one fucking thing i was so sure wouldn’t happen.”
the best single dad romance i have read.
the chemistry between them is fantastically written, the writing style was so beautiful and easy to read that i finished it so quickly. this was actually the book that made me fall in love with the single parent trope.
dex little kid’s are the most cuttest one, they were so adorable and funny.

I finished this in a day. Melanie’s writing is so easy and light and fun. I loved this one, and I loved Winnie and Dex’s story even more than Winnie’s parents! Melanie always saves me when I think I’m sliding into a slump. This is one of my favorites by her too!

Age-gap of 12 years. 'Single' dad of two little girls. Winnie is 22 and pretty much a hopeless romantic. Dex is 34, divorced and has his daughters with him twice a week. IMO I don't think this necessarily falls under the single dad trope because the mom, Naomi, takes care of the girls for the most part, so it's more of a co-parenting situation.
It's a quick read, the daughters Hallie and Luna are cute and they have their funny moments. Dex is too hung up on the age difference and that's kind of annoying, but it's whatever.
There is a HEA but there is the typical third act 'break up'.
TLDR; t'was good, not great, but easy enough read that I'm not mad at it.
