3.5~ I liked this book. It was really fun and I enjoyed reading it in my free time. There were a couple parts that were cringy and unnecessary parts added. But overall I liked it

I’m head over heels for this story. I love a good grumpy x sunshine and this one for sure did not disappoint.

I could write every word in the entire English language and I still would not have enough words to describe my love for this book. This is so iconic.
Single dad? Yes.
Firefighter? Yes.
Marine? Yes.
Tattoos? Yes.
What more could I possibly want?

Ignite by Melanie Harlow

5/5

Ignite was a book I picked up on Kindle Unlimited with zero knowledge going into it aside from it being an age gap/grumpy sunshine romance that I am a sucker for. Immediately, I knew I was going to like this story, especially Dex, because he starts the book off with

“Now they were playing their favorite game, which was to stand next to me while I slept and talk shit about me.”

I laughed so hard at this and knew that his smart a** comments were going to make me love him. Throughout the entire story, this little game continues, and it makes me adore his little girls Luna and Hallie.

Dex's hardcore demeanor, grumpy attitude, and bulking muscles leave Winnie breathless in her window as she watches her new neighbor move in.

I knew I'd love this girl the moment she called her best friend to talk about the hot guy next door. Winnie admires him from her second floor window and gets spotted, which she says with the iconic line

“Shit. He just saw me being all Gladys Kravitz at the window.”

I haven't laughed so hard at a book in a minute, but this reference just about took me out.

As the story progresses and Winnie and Dex spend more time together, the realization hits them both in pretty quick succession that they are falling for one another, but neither of them will admit it. Dex thinks he's too old for her and that he doesn't want to hold her back from her dream job. Meanwhile, Winnie thinks that he is the one she is meant to be with but ultimately makes her own decisions to move away.

Luna and Hallie are so cute, and they make a “nose wish” iykyk that they would end up HEA. Hallie even writes an ongoing story throughout the book about Dex and Winnies' love story.

On a side note, I want to mention how it was refreshing to read a story about a single dad who had a good relationship with his ex. Naomi and Dexs relationship was honestly good compared to divorced parents that I have seen irl or even in other books. They were able to rationally talk about the girls and their wants/needs, Naomi could talk to him about her new marriage with her fiance, and Naomi honestly showed caring interest for Dex when she realized that Winnie was more than just a fling. Additionally, Naomi was so mature when she and the girls were getting their nails done and saw Winnie and her mother at the salon. Naomi spoke with Winnie respectfully and never once made an issue out of something throughout the book. No disrespect to other stories, but this is the kind of adult relationship I wanna see!!

Anywho, this story was spicy right from the jump, and Dex definitely used his age and experience to show Winnie what it was like to be with a real man.

girl meets boy. boy meets girl. he is a firefighter. when he walks into what he thought was a sure fire hazard, he (and his two daughters) see her bum naked. and then they turn that into a running joke throughout the story

A great read!

Age gap, single dad, grumpy sunshine, and a HEA! Yes please! This book was great. It sucked me in from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down! This was my first Melanie Harlow book, but I will definitely be reading more from this author!
