It’s overall wasn’t that bad and don’t get me wrong like I did really like the book. It just wasn’t really like shocking you know what I mean like it was a good book to take up my time and I definitely liked it, but I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would.
I love a single dad romance and this one didn’t disappoint.
For me the stars are always the children and the two siblings in this one are just brilliant.
This romance follows Dex a firefighter and Winnie who lives next door to him. He has moved house with his two young children and is focused on his work and building a life for them all in a new home.
He is a likeable character, focused and strong and wants to provide for his two daughters and they instantly like next door neighbour Winnie and one of their first meetings is such a comical scene Winnie wishes she could forget. If you know - you know !!! I liked Dex - grumpy and holding himself back in his relationship with Winnie for right and wrong reasons.
Winnie finds Dex and his daughters attractive and could the daughters have more to the story than meets the eye. Winnie is a young, lively, loveable character and her relationship with Dex and his girls was such an enjoyable part of this book.
A spicy good read and one which I enjoyed. There is a lovely small-town feel to this one and if you have read the Cloverleigh Farms books then this one will not disappoint.

A funny grumpy/sunshine rom com! This was my first Melanie Harlow book and it had me laughing!
• Single dad • Age Gap • Grumpy/Sunshine • Firefighter • Neighbors with Benefits • Instant Attraction •
Dexter is a 34 year old retired Navy SEAL turned firefighter with two school age daughters who moves in next door to 22 year old recent college graduate and event coordinator Winnie. Dex is recently divorced and has shared custody of his girls, who just happen to be with him on move in day and are the reason Dex and Winnie are formally introduced. But his failed marriage has Dex convinced he would never make a good match for someone again.
Winnie is the kind of person I would describe as being in love with love. She always been quick to fall “in love” with any guy she’s liked even a little since grade school. But after her 6 week engagement is called off, Winnie swears off love and men altogether. That is, of course, until the hot single dad moves in next door.
Neither Winnie nor Dex can deny the instant physical attraction they feel for each other and both agree to have a “benefits” arrangement with no strings attached and absolutely no falling in love. We all know how that goes!
It was lighthearted and funny, especially all the interactions between Dex and his daughters and just Dexter’s grumpiness in general. Dex is a grouchy “old man” and uses Winnie’s age as his reason for not wanting to pursue more with her. But there is a lot of unresolved issues from his past that Dex has to confront before he can be happy.
I loved Winnie’s youthful yet mature attitude. She’s great with Dex’s kids and at times, she seems more sure of what she wants than Dexter. And I appreciate her straight forward attitude/confidence.
I listened on Audible. While I enjoyed the story, the audio was not my favorite. Winnie’s audio sounded “tinny” and far away. And the narrator for Dex doesn’t do a great female voice.

Trope:
- Age gap
- Single dad
- Military/first responder
- Grumpy vs Sunshine
- Small town
Listen, I'm all for a good age gap... but when the two young daughters (younger than 10 I believe), have more personality than the FMC I think we have a problem! That is my main issue with this book. How is it that a full fledge adult lacks so much personality? Winnie is so unremarkable that she should've been named Eeyore, and yes I am currently laughing at my own lame joke. Don't even get me started on Dexter. This man is just a mound of muscles and is a single dad, and yes, it is the great start but that is where this individual ends. His personality is beige. I mean I can get behind that Winnie was mature in situations when Dex lost his temper, but these two are the frikken equivalent of unflavoured frozen yoghurt. The only thing that kept me from DNF:ing this book were the two daughters and her friend Ellie. All in all, it was okay but not more than that.

Fue bastante como volver a leer el primer libro, seguimos con el romance super de la nada y todo se resuelvo muy rapido pero igual estuvo lindo y soy fan de las niñas.

This was absolutely adorable. The kids made me cackle out loud. Thought it was very formulaic but I thoroughly enjoyed the read. Spice is a 3. I found it because I saw a tiktok where the creator said it was the best dirty talk they had ever read, that wasn’t necessarily true but it was still good dirty talk for the few spicey scenes. I’d give it a 3.5 rounded up to a 4 for goodreads sake
I just couldn’t get into this book, and realistically this couple. I enjoyed the naïve but self aware Winnie but honestly I just didn’t see the long term appeal of Dex. It just seems like he’s permanently having to think about whether or not he wanted to take the next step. In addition, there were moments I just confused as to why these were the actions of the hero, like getting annoyed by his ex-wife for being concerned about their daughter's allergic reaction. Also there were things that just annoyed me, the continued mentioning that Dex is hairy. Luna and Hallie were at least a cheery delight to read.
he was just an asshole. dude you're 34 years old with 2 children grow the fuck up ☠️
2.75 stars rounded up
I am on a quest to read books with more diverse tropes and I was due to read books with “single father”. Not only that but Ignite also has some grumpy-sunshine and age gap
Overall is a OK story. He is a ex-navy seal that works as a firefighter, is divorced and is sharing custody of his two little daughters. The book starts with him moving into this new apartment and discovering that his neighbor is shot single (and young) girl.
Right off the bat I want to say thatI started this book with a little of prejudice but I’m giving it a fair shot.
Man in uniform + single father is NOT my cup of tea and I did roll my eyes (thinking it was very typical) every time that he lost his temper with his friends and family when he was called out on his bullshit. Now, would I find it annoying if it was a dark romance? No (however this IS a staple of the genre).
It also annoyed me whenever he said his ex-wife was nagging him. Like.. dude.. she clearly doesn’t trust your ability to parenting. The silver lining is that throughout the book they started adjusting their shared custody and everyone was on better footing afterwards.
The romance aspects of it was ok. The characters did have some chemistry although I cringed about certain scenes.
Overall it was ok. I see how this book might be appealing for some people but it was not for me
