grumpy Single dad, falls for younger next door neighbour.
This was really close to 4 stars as I really enjoyed it. There was a couple really cringey moments I had to like get up and walk away before I tried to keep going.
Their chemistry was off the charts, and the little girls were so sweet !!! Hearing about Winnie all grown up was really cool, and we still got to see glimpses of our favourite Sawyer family.
Dex is an ex-military firefighter, single dad who loves his girls. He wants to be better than his father was, and he everything he can for them.
When he moves next door to Winnie, instant attraction.
Neither of them want a relationship. Winnie falls in love too quick and is on a personal challenge to stay single and have control over her feelings.
They start something casual, and promise not to fall in love.
Well whoops, they did anyway.
But then Winnie gets a job in a different state - her dream job. Dex won’t admit he wants her to stay, so she goes. And both are miserable….

I loved this storyline with Dex and Winnie. Him being grumpy really made this interesting. I highly recommend this book. 📚
This was really cute, though not as spicy as I prefer. I wish I had noticed this was so far into the series before reading, but it did standalone well.
The grumpy hero meets the sunshine girl
I love a book that includes a happy, sunshine and quirky girl and a tortured grumpy hero and oh this book has that in spades. It includes sweet moments, fan your face steam, chuckles, cute and sassy kids, tearful scenes, magic, and heart squeezing love. Dex is a 34 year old former Seal firefighter and a divorced single dad of two small girls. He is a little rough around the edges and a little wounded. Winnie is a 22 year old event planner who loves big with her whole heart and is sunshine, joy, and light but is also a little wounded. Sparks fly and the chemistry is undeniable when Dex moves into the townhouse next door to Winnie. But Winnie has sworn off relationships for six months since she falls too fast and hard for the wrong men and Dex is not interested in another relationship. So they agree to be friends with benefits only. Except there are messy feelings that inevitably show up but ogres and princesses need to be together so they’ll get their HEA. This is a rom com but it’s also a deeply emotional story which includes witty dialogue, characters with depth, growth, and an engaging storyline. I am excited to see what happens next in the series.

This book was exactly what I needed. It was a quick read and this is the first book I have read from this author. I will be reading more of her work.
Fans of Cloverleigh Farms will love this extension. This is the start of the next generation.
It was so funny, especially Dex’s little girls, Hallie and Luna. They seem to be little match makers. They’re determined to embarrass their dad at all costs. But they fall in love with Winnie. I mean who wouldn’t.
Winnie’s love story is similar to her dad, Mack and Frannie’s story in Cloverleigh Farms. She tells the girls all about how she and her sisters would wear their father down to get what they wanted and these two little girls will take any advice they can get to keep their dad wrapped around their fingers.
It’s fun, enjoyable and swoon worthy. Melanie Harlow never disappoints. I loved it. I actually read it in one sitting. It was so great.

This book started off SO good, I'm almost mad about it. I really liked Winnie and her upbeat spirit and positive sense of self. I liked Dex and how much he loved his kids. And the kids! They were perfect in every way and made this story a delight right from the start. I laughed so many times, laughing out loud because so many things were funny and cute and charming.
And then somewhere around the halfway mark everything took a shit. Winnie and Dex got so boring, the smut wasn't engaging, and I found myself not really caring about either of them. I also didn't really see the leap, within those 6 weeks, from lust to love, especially when a lot of the conversations felt unnaturally shoved in and expository. Around the third or fourth time Dex snapped at someone because he's a grown man who can't handle "feelings", I was over it. By the end, with all the side characters convincing him to "redeem" himself, it was too late.
Winnie, girl, you deserve better. You deserve something a lot healthier than what that man was offering.
