This book made me smile and laugh out loud! I loved the 2 little girls in this book and their personalities carried this book. I loved how Winnie understood the girls and their needs with food allergies and anxiety. I would recommend this book to others and I can’t wait to read more of these books!

Winnie seems very naive about a lot of things, but she’s a good person. I love the grumpy/sunshine trope and the “mean” guy melts for his girl.

This is a cute book. I loved the little girls personalities!

The romance was too fast-paced for me. It's cute, just not great

esta ok

Winnie has just made a vow of no more relationships when a hot, broody single dad moves in next door. Dex is a divorced firefighter who doesn’t believe in happily-ever-afters and has no intention of ever marrying again. When they act on their mutual attraction, they both agree it will be casual and they will not fall in love - but their hearts don’t seem to be in agreement.

I enjoyed reading this. The writing flowed really well and it was very engaging. There was a simplicity to the story that made it really refreshing and a perfect distraction. The chemistry between Winnie and Dex was good and the sex scenes were hot and steamy. I really liked how their emotional connection developed and I felt achey during their separation. I particularly felt for Winnie - I thought her distress was particularly well-done. There was also a very gentle sense of humour running through it, and Dex’s relationship with his daughters was very endearing.

However, I sometimes found Dex a little harsh - he was definitely a grumpy hero and as I said, his relationship with his daughters was very endearing, but sometimes he came across very mean and I found it hard to warm to him. I also felt some of the pacing was a little off through it. Whilst they had a lot of scenes together, there was a lot of talking between the two main characters and their family/friends that became repetitive - not the conversations themselves, as I think they did a lot to move the character development along, but the way the conversations happened. Dex would go to work and talk to his brother-in-law in the fire department’s gym; Winnie would talk to her friend at work; Dex would have a conversation with his sister in a kitchen, or talk to his ex-wife outside her house. I just personally found it a bit repetitive as the book went on, as a lot of similar phrases would be used.

Aside from those small gripes, I thought this was an enjoyable and easy-to-read romance book and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a single dad, age gap, grumpy/sunshine romance set in a small town.

4 ⭐️/5

I was actually pretty funny to read this. The kids were a bonus. Hallie and Luna were so funny, when they just stand beside the bed and shit-talk about Dex while he would just pretended to be asleep.

I don’t usually read the single mom/dad trope, because I find it very— I don’t know. The girls that get it, get it. Anyways, I enjoy myself reading it and while it was a nice book I don’t think I’m in my best mood for reading some books lately. I feel like I’m reading just to avoid responsibilities and procrastinate. Which makes sense since I’m a very procrastinating person.

But whatever. The age gap was so funny because he thinks that he’s like 50 years older when it was just 12 years apart, which —to be honest— isn’t a really big age gap this days. It makes sense though, because it wasn’t the age but the stage of life.

I loved how Winnie would throw herself out there and love people with everything she had to give. It makes her braver than she might thought. Because it takes a lot to give everything and get nothing in return. She was so kind and generous and easy to love, I understand how Dex fell that easily.
