Well written and complex book. I really enjoyed the prose. My only complaints are that it dragged on in some parts and it was just too long.

The Goldfinch was utterly nauseating. Because of how close the first-person narration was, the entirety of the book seems to be so intertwined within my own mind that, in brief examination, it feels far more like my own memories than those of Theo Decker. To say I loved this book would do a great injustice to the actual amount of adoration I have for it, and, frankly, the way in which I am thinking about it (which is something that I cannot fully describe without losing any sort of illusion of sanity in the eyes of my friends), is perhaps not ironic, but fitting. What a book.

After a while, I found myself wondering how it was still a book about "a boy and his mother," but, looking back, Theo's mother was always there. She became a ghost threaded through his story, sitting in between the lines. He may not always have been thinking about her or referencing her directly, but she was there nevertheless.

I feel like I've got more to say but can't articulate it at the moment. My rating might change if I think about this a bit more, too, but it is what it is for now.

Personally not the escapism I was wanting... in fact far too much brutal reality.
Just a bit of a bummer tbh, she is a great writer though do not get me wrong. The allure of her books are so strong that each read feels like a slight disappointment in some way.
I think it's just hard to read about things that are sadly relatable.
I think I had actually just started to dislike or not care about the characters by the last 100/150 pages when I'd spent the whole book caring about them, Theo and Boris just started to piss me off.

Have a hard time rating this because much (but not all) of the first 85% of the book is a slog, but the ending is really good and dependent on all that beginning, boring, slow stuff

This was my first audio book. So it felt long and drawn out
With the philosophizing but the characters and storyline - especially Boris - were great. Favourite book quote ““Where does it ever say, anywhere, that only bad can come from bad actions? Maybe sometimes— the wrong way is the right way? You can take the wrong path and it still comes out where you want to be?”

I flew through some parts of this and really struggled with others. Switched to the audio version for the last 300 pages or so.
