Harry Potter and the Deus Ex Machina. The plot was not seeded in the preceding 6 books, despite them all doing the world building and the setup of the climax of the story. The worst of the series. Again action packed to distract from the lack of both plot and character development. Much of the beloved wider cast is killed off to distract from the lack of high stakes.

This one and the first one just have such a nostalgia to them. I enjoyed this one a lot, the plot comes full circle, it’s both sad and funny and hopeful all at the same time (mostly sad tbh). But the end is satisfying and that makes it overall enjoyable.
