THIS WAS SPECTACULAR EXCEPT I WANTED TO PUNCH HER PLENTY OF TIMES BUT LUCKY OWNS MY FREAKING HEART

This was a very romantic story. I loved every minute of it and I WAS NOT able to put this book down. It was soooo good! And I loved the humor and interactions between the characters. Josie and Lucky need their own movie! They’re just too cute!
lighthearted medium-paced

Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

While reading it, I thought the story was dragging and just taking forever to get through. However, I realize that this just made the relationship more realistic. It was a gradual thing, not a "oh we met each other last week and now we're in love." I thought the story was cute, real, and well written.

Jenn Bennett has the perfect mix of funny and heartfelt in each of her books. She is an instant-buy for me no matter what!

okay i was super into this until the very last part with the drama between lucky and josie. it just seemed like the author needed one more argument before the happily ever after. it also seemed like levi summers went from gross capitalistic pig to a decent guy way too fast and with no evidence to support it. so overall i liked the plot and the romance but some of the characters made weird changes by the end.

it had a good moral about being a good communicator in relationships, and as always i appreciate the author’s candid and honest takes on sex and sexuality. i think teens who read this book will get a healthy look at what having sex with a partner should look like at their age, and i really like seeing that in YA books.

I enjoyed this one but I honestly think it's probably my least favorite Jenn Bennett book so far. Maybe I'm just (finally) outgrowing the YA book world but I don't seem to connect to the books the same way I used to. Or maybe I've just read too many of the same kinds of books. Either way, there wasn't really anything different in this one. Neither character really stood out to me and I felt like the relationships between Josie and her mom (or Josie and her cousin and grandma or her mom and her grandma, not to mention anything with her father) weren't ever really examined very deeply. I know that this is a romance, but I really wish there had been more focus on the relationships, even the past best friend relationship between Josie and Lucky. It seemed to me like there was a lot that could be explored there but it was really just skimmed and easily resolved. I guess what I'm really looking for is a family drama story and there was so much here we could have really gotten into. So that's on me. The relationship between Josie and Lucky was cute. I just never really felt much of a spark between them. I think I maybe wasn't in the right mood to read this one. It was a cute and fast YA romance. But if you want something deeper or a stronger connection, I don't think this will satisfy you.

Thank you to the publisher for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

3.5 stars. Typical quick read Jenn Bennett book. I liked Lucky. Wish they’d developed the characters/backstory a little more.

This was…fine? To be fair, I don’t love stories about small town bullying gossips or family secrets, and that’s pretty much all this book was, so a lot of this is probably just personal preference.
I do think Bennett is a compelling writer who captures teens pretty realistically, which I always appreciate. I read Alex, Approximately by her a few years ago & remember really enjoying it.
So I think she’s an author I’d recommend for this genre, just not this specific book.
