I feel like this entire book is just leading up to the next one, setting a stage and building a world. Hopefully more actual character development in the next one

A six feet tall, narcissistic and arrogant prince of Hell and a stubborn, vengeful Witch? Hell yes! (I have a type, okay?)
Maniscalco might have pissed me off with sloppy writing but she also gave me a trope I adore- enemies to lovers. This is a family of witches who are into hiding. A microscopic view will tell you exactly why they are always chanting protection spells- the Fates are interlinked with the 7 princes of Hell and their freedom to travel between realms.
The world-building is exquisite. Emilia's quest to find her sister's killer leads her straight to Wrath and his charmingly obnoxious personality. There are lesser demons- scheming and Bloodthirsty shits who add to the overall danger of the plot.
Maniscalco really wins at building the slow burn chemistry between Emilia and Wrath- with their trust issues and raging hormones.
Kingdom of the Wicked is a promising start but I do hope the writing gets better in the next book. Also, the cliffhanger was devastatingly good.

3.5 but giving it 4 because I really like the premise and don’t want to round down for that! I also have to remember it’s YA. Excited for the 2nd one

3☆ for the first half, 4☆ for the second
Soooo I don't know why, but even though there were a lot of things that I didn't like, I am still hooked and definitely want to read the second part?!
First things first, I really didn't like the MC. To me, Emilia acts super irrational, arrogant, and borderline manipulative. I didn't understand many of her actions and felt like she had huge plot armour. Without Wraith, she would and should have died multiple times, and she seems 0% aware of this for most of the book.
The plot was gripping and interesting as well as confusing and too fast-paced at the same time. I really liked the world building, the wicked, and the magic system, but I was confused by it at the same time. Hoping the second part answers many questions.
I also enjoyed the writing and the chemistry between Emilia and Wraith. The ending surprised me and kept me interested.

This story has so much potential, and I really hope it's realized in book 2. I felt like I didn't get to build a relationship with the characters, and Emilia had so little growth I found it frustrating. I also don't enjoy when ideas are introduced and not decently explored by the end of the book, like the shapeshifters. I really like the style of writing and the voice, but hope for more detail and hope to have more feelings evoked in the next book. Also, I hope our dear Emilia develops into the character it feels like she's thinking about.
