DID NOT FINISH: 42%

Flat, non-sensical and unrealized MC who just came off as infuriating. Poorly executed plot that doesn’t intrigue me with creative ideas nor pretty prose.

⚠️ SPOILER WARNING.

So… I read Kingdom of the Wicked in like 4 days and honestly? I have no notes. EXCEPT:
Wrath. is. SO. FINE.
I don’t know why I liked him so much but I did. It just happened. Don’t ask me.

And Vitoria??? Girl, why are you hiding everything all the time?? She was keeping so many secrets it actually started pissing me off. BUT ANYWAY—
I went into this book with zero clue what it was about and somehow ended up obsessed.
Now the problem is: I DON’T HAVE BOOK 2. And I have to wait like a whole week and I’m NOT OKAY.
cue crying noises in the background

Alsoooo... I really liked the concept. The worldbuilding. The aesthetic.
BUT THAT KISS SCENE between Emilia and Wrath?
Yeah, I didn’t vibe.

Like. Why is every single kiss in fantasy books written the exact same way??
✨ “He wants to devour me, it’s savage yet soft, dark yet powerful. I know it’s wrong, but I want more.” ✨
LIKE??? ENOUGH. ENOUGH WITH THIS.
Why does every male character have to be this mysterious, emotionally repressed, dark, sexy, tortured, god-like creature with tragic trauma and killer instincts? And why is the kiss always written like an elegant fever dream????

Please. I beg. Write a different kind of kiss. I'm so tired.

I guess this just wasn't for me (tbh I don't even know why I finished this.. ). I suppose witches are not my thing, though it may just have been the writing style of the author, weird interruptions of the plot by cooking/recipe thoughts of the fmc and the too obvious storyline.

Baby girl is STOOPID.

*3.5* Even though the writing wasn’t that great and sometimes a little rushed, I did enjoy it. Book 2 will arrive tomorrow:)

This pulled me in from the start.  The audiobook was so good.  As with most first books in a series, there is a lot of work building and getting to know characters.  I’m curious where this story will go now.  On to book 2!

Rating: 4.75 stars

I actually really enjoyed this book. A lot of people told me that the first one was not the best one, which is good because that means I will most likely love the rest of this series. I loved this book's dark, gothic themes, and I thought the premise was unique. The writing style kept me engaged and intrigued throughout the entirety of the book, and I was in love with the MMC. I am excited to continue this series.
