I was so eager to read this that I picked it up immediately after I finished my exam, and read it all in 3 hours.

Ash. Ash. Ash. Ash.
Oh the things you do for love. The things you endure for love. The things you sacrifice for love.

Definitely a fairytale ending.

meh. dnf at like 10% because i lost interest

ahh, what a way to end a series the perfect happy ending! i loved this series and i am sad to see it go but Iron knight was an amazing book, i loved every minute of it i thought that this ash that we say was perfect i loved how things ended up with puck and to be completely hones i was sad about what happened with Ariella but it was perfect how her story ended! this book was outstanding!

pretty much hated Ariella in this book, also wish i would have been able to see the future Meghan and Ash did end up having. i want to know if he grew old. and i wanted more time with him and Meghan. I ended this series with lots of unanswered questions. loved this series but this book was a disappointment compared to the others.

This book hit me way harder in the feels seven years later....

I enjoyed the final installment of the Iron Fey (that is until I read the separate series). It was interesting to see things from Ash’s POV instead of Meghan though I still think I liked the first two books the best. Puck is still my fav by far though and Grimalkin. Looking forward to read Kagawa’s other works!

2.5/5

I've been waiting to post this review for so long! I didn't want to have it up too far away from the release date, but now I can finally post it!

The first thing I'm going to say, is that you REALLY don't want to read any spoilers for this book. If you see a spoiler warning somewhere on the internet I urge you to look away, and do it quick. In fact, be very careful, because a lot of the reviews I read didn't have any spoiler warning before they blabbed The Iron Knight's best secrets (*cough* spoilery Goodreads reviewers *cough*). You don't want to be spoiled for the surprises that await you in this book!

So once again, Julie Kagawa proves that she can weave an intricate and emotional tale. Events from the very first book, all the way through the third book, come into play in surprising ways. One of the things I admire about JK, is her ability to write these harrowing emotions out on paper. She can really get into her characters' minds, and see what's in there. She also has a knack for taking legends and bringing them to life in her books.

Being from Ash's point of view, we get a first class seat through his inner turmoil. Remember when we didn't know a lot about Ash? Well, that isn't true after this book. This is a hugely personal journey for Ash, and he is given an impressive character arc. Fans of Puck won't feel left out, either. This is full of Puck's best moments, complete with his signature clueless--but hilarious--actions.

Other characters included in this story are fantastic. Some surprising characters join them on their journey (can't tell you who, though), and they add a great dynamic to the group. I love the parallel of Ash and Puck's centuries of feuding, to Grim and his arch nemesis (oh yes). Their interaction was comical at times and intense at others. It is definitely my favorite team up of all the books.

Now why did I only give this a 99.4 rating? For one thing, some of the trials were things that are overdone, and they didn't seem nearly as dangerous (at least to me) as they were made out to be. It could be argued that the trials were chosen because that's where the legends of these trials came from. But I was just expecting, well...more.

For another thing, there were a couple times in the book where the story changed to other tales, and I found myself bored. I can't say when or why this happens, but when you read it you'll know what I'm talking about. The events were necessary, but the way they happened took me out of the story and it lost some of its urgency.

All-in-all, this is a fantastic story. Not as good as The Iron Queen, but definitely great. And it is by far the darkest, and the most emotionally ravaging. I have never been more torn as a reader; I truly felt sorry for Ash.

*I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This review was originally published on my blog: The Reading Fever.

Due primarily to reader demand, Kagawa extended her original Iron Fey trilogy to include The Iron Knight. This novel is Ash's story, with Meghan installed as the Iron Queen, the UnSeelie prince can see only one way to be with his love - to become mortal.
Ash, along with Puck set out on their quest to find the mysterious Guardian who has the power to give Ash a soul. There is plenty of adventure and danger and as well as some lighter moments thanks mainly to Puck's sense of mischief and Grimalkin's generalized disdain. It's a heroic journey and Kagawa plays it out masterfully. Yet the Iron Knight is driven by emotion as Ash confronts his past, his love for Meghan and the possibilities of his future.
Since I was never a huge fan of Meghan I didn't miss her absence in the Iron Knight. I loved that Puck had a strong role in the story, if Kagawa could be swayed i would love a novel just about Puck, particularly given the ending of the Iron Knight. There are two new characters who accompany Ash and Puck on their quest, one is the big bad wolf of legend the other I won't reveal for fear of spoilers but suffice it to say it will surprise readers.
The world building is, as it has been through the series, imaginative and interesting. I really like the author's mythology which is a mix of creative license and familiar legend.
Apparently Julie Kagawa is planning a spin off series featuring Ethan (Meghan's little brother) but I would be very interested in an adult title from this author.
I'm wary of writing too much about The Iron Knight because if you have become a fan of this series then I don't want to give away anything. The Iron Fey has been a wonderful series to read and The Iron Knight is a wonderfully satisfying conclusion which I think fans will love.

This book was amazing. Honestly, this one is the best from the series so far. The character development in Ash and Puck is amazing. This is truly a wonderful story of adventure and friendship. I can't wait to start he next one. This series is definitely worth reading.
