I thought this was like doomed to always find each other and fall in love, torn apart of what have you. Instead, partly because of the format of time jump I think but also because the author spent a lot of time having them having sex but no real emotional connection—it’s just two dudes who bang a lot in three lives. And one is a fox. Kinda.

I read this for a book club and both listened to the audiobook and read the ebook. The narrators for the audiobook were incredible, but I think it was easier to follow the twists and turns while reading the words on a page. I thought this book was really good but it was pretty hard to understand in some places because it would jump from concrete to abstract without warning and didn't have a regular cadence until about halfway. However, I think it was a fun read and I love the centering of Gaysians. Can't wait for more Calvin someday!!!
I'm not sure how to rate this book.
At first it threw me off, because it wasn't at all what I was expecting, but I am glad I continued reading because the story I found instead was really interesting. As a lover of Danmei (Guardian in particular) I wanted to see where the plot would go and how the reincarnation and longing across ages would play out.
I also enjoyed playing "who was who in the past?" and was pleasantly surprised to be wrong on certain accounts. The book has some nice twists that I did not see coming.
Overall this was a good story. It was threaded together to reveal only what the author wanted at the time it should be. It utilized the idea of love being a feeling from past lives well, and offered us a love story that spanned ages. There was longing and pain, jealousy and passion. Love is messy, and that is true in this book.
Perhaps that is why it left me with such mixed emotions that I can't say if I liked it or not.

extremely upset about the cat being called Miaomi, I genuinely cringed every time I saw that name. also, choices were made regarding certain descriptions... however still super addictive and I read this in one sitting
