C.S. Lewis was able to create such a vast and beautiful world and welcomes you in with open arms. However I can't rate this any higher as it is near impossible to avoid the racist undertones (overtones?). And the fate of
Susan. My beloved.

Great book for sparking conversations with children about the end times, as well God’s judgement and mercy. Definitely requires parental guidance no matter the language.

Ummm I'm not sure my dad actually read me this one as a child and I'm thinking that was a very good call because this is highly distressing. I know all the books are religious parables but this one reads almost like propaganda and that kinda destroys the magic of Narnia... plus the literal destruction of Narnia... everyone dies and they all lived happily ever after. That's literally the book lol I still say C.S. Lewis is a great writer and I still love Narnia overall but in future series rereads I plan to skip this one.

Quote: But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read: which goes on for ever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.

My least favorite BY FAR. I like the feeling of the ending - it's how I imagine heaven really will feel. But I really dislike the rest of it. It feels forced and more racist and sexist than the other books. I can sort of try to overlook it in the other ones, because it was a product of its time, but it's just so blatant in this.

I see a lot of reviews really hating on the series for pushing a fundamentalist agenda, and I can understand the frustration. But I also think C.S. Lewis just really loved Christianity and wanted to write a story hinting at that. I don't think he was thinking to himself "this is going to convert all the kids" but idk, what do I know... Maybe he was? It felt more overt in this book which is why I liked it less.

“The Last Battle” is particularly sad to read when you’re old enough to know what happens. There are some upsetting things that happen at the beginning, a more detailed battle sequence than in previous books, and then…well, I can’t say without spoiling the last 1/4 of the book.

It also has a lot more racial slurs in it than I remembered…

I really enjoyed this book but I cannot give it more than 3.75 because of two reasons. Reason number one being the obviously racist tilt of the story. I am aware that C.S.Lewis wrote this book in a different time but some things are too much and this felt too far, time period and social climate considered. My second problem with this story is SUSAN. NOT COOL. NOT OKAY. NOPE. Unnecessary and out of character. C.S.Lewis threw her under the bus for no real reason which showcases lazy writing. These complaints aside though I enjoyed so much about this book and overall this series has been a blast to read/listen to throughout 2017!
