This was a hard one to rate. I probably enjoyed it enough to rate it 4 stars, but I had enough issues with it that decided to settle on 3 stars. I really liked the plot, the pacing, and the characters. I connected well with everyone and wanted to keep reading all the time to find out what really happened.
However, I was really disappointed that the author kept making a connection between autism and vaccinations. I think that especially during this time, that is a very dangerous claim to make. Perhaps less was known at the time this was written, but I think spreading that idea is irresponsible and dangerous. I was also somewhat disappointed with the ending. It was pretty abrupt. There was also an unnecessary romance in the story that felt unrealistic to me.
Despite its flaws, it was a good book. Jodi Picoult usually writes a reliably solid story that makes people think. I'm sure I'll read more by her in the future.

I enjoyed this book. A look into autism and how it affects the child and family. I would recommend it to someone. I haven’t found a book by her I haven’t enjoyed.
I hated this book. I'd give it 1 star except for the fact that I finished it instead of tossing it aside. Really annoying characaters and a TERRIBLE ending. Don't bother unless you love Jodi Picoult. I never really like her books and this one was no different.
I love Jodi Picoults books for about the first 200 pages and then the same court case happens and there is to much information thrown at you. This book was very good, but it gets a little dry half way through. Information is good and I am very impressed in her research, but I can onlt take in so much when I want to be hearing a story.
I'm sorry but the way the author touches the autism topic it's so cringe that I can't read this thing anymore
Highly recommend this excellent book, in Jodi Picoult's usual well-written, well-researched and thoughtful prose. The book is engaging and fast-paced, and the story is told through the eyes of some truly interesting characters, especially Jacob, an eighteen year-old young man with Asperger's Syndrome, which is a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum. As mom to two very different children with autism, I cannot say enough about the true-to-life way that Picoult has captured much of the challenges, joys, and perspective of families who live with Autism day in and day out. This is a novel that made me laugh and cry and kept me guessing. I couldn't put it down. If you're wondering what to read next, read this!
I enjoyed this book, as I do with all of Jodi Picoult's novels. The one thing that bugged me is that none of the people close to Jacob wanted to take a hint & realize that he was trying to them that he actually didn't have anything to do with Jess's death. It is almost as if they never considered that, "hey, maybe he DIDN'T do it." No other possible explanation was allowed to be explored. I also had a bit of a problem with the ending, as it wasn't clear as to how it all turned out.
I've loved Jodi Picoult's work for some time now. She's willing to traverse that fine line of discussing controversial social and familial issues, where others are not. This book was a great read and gave a lot of insight into some of the workings for families that have an aspergian family member. While not her best work, definitely a novel that will get your mind to thinking like many of her novel's do. I'd recommend this book to anyone.
About a boy with Asperger's who is accused of murder. Plot: 4 stars, writing style: 5 stars. The ending left me wanting more. I love Jodi Picoult's writing style, especially her character development.
