There was A LOT to unpack in this volume, but I really enjoyed it. Maika is on the hut for answers and is traveling with Kippa and Ren by her side. After meeting up with her godfather, he asks a badass group of pirates to take Maika and her companions to the Island of Bones. As Maika discovers the truth her mother had been concealing, the monster within her begins to remember the events of the past. Meanwhile, Maika's enemies are racing against the clock to find her.

The plot is intriguing and I would keep reading just for the storyline, however the art is what has me frantically requesting the next ones from the library and having anxiety about how long it'll take until I get the next one. This art is detailed and BEAUTIFUL.

Volume Two of Monstress was a much quicker and easier read than Volume One.

The art continues to be incredible, Sana Takeda is an absolute goddess-tier artist. There seemed to be a lot less going on in this volume story-wise, things are starting to come together and make sense. I love the main trio of Maika, Kippa, and Ren. Still so many questions, and can’t wait to see what happens next!
