Amazing worldbuilding, an intricate story that rewards rereading, and lush art. What's not to love?!

Beautiful and brutal, and I want more

I wanted to love this. The art is incredible and the characters are complex. But I just lost interest in the story as the plot became more and more convoluted. And while I can tolerate violence when it's a necessary part of telling a story, here it feels gratuitous and got annoying.

It blows my mind that this is my third read of this book and there's still so much that I either didn't remember or didn't pick up on the first time. As always, the art is stunning and I love how the world and story are unfolding.

Beautifully illustrated with a great story. Fantasy at its best.

AMAZING continuation of the Monstress series. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

A dark story, full of violence, bigotry, and betrayal, but also hope, loyalty, and determination to make the world better. Beautifully illustrated, with compelling characters, I definitely will read the next installment.
adventurous dark mysterious sad tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

This series is so freaking weird. But I'm still here for it.

Monstress is up there with Deadly Class in my book, where loving it with all my heart will kill me, so 4 stars and a "best of [year]" will have to suffice.
