Wow - this is incredible. My first Butler and I’m hooked on this story. Lilith is an amazing character - to go through so much, to question, to adapt. Amazing.

Even as someone entirely pro alien fucking the serious doubt and questionable understanding of the aliens did start to stress me out. Imagining the uncomfortable uncanniness of being vaguely shaped like us but so wrong in a surreal way. The hopeless feeling of losing your autonomy is harrowing.

Deeply uncomfortable read, challenging and prescient. I read this many years ago and am looking forward to rereading the trilogy. More heteronormative than I recalled but that might be the point.

fifth time re-reading the book and it's still not enough!! there are no words that could describe the love i have in my heart for this story and every single character in it... lilith loml nikanj loml <3 <3 <3
there probably will never be another alien species i love as much as i love oankalis or a character i feel as strongly for as for nikanj, but at least after five years i know it's because of certain neurological problems i possess naturally that i find them incredibly magnetic.
otherwise imagine writing the most INCREDIBLE book about colonialism, race, gender, oppression, bodily autonomy and rape ever... i wish i could make this book mandatory for everyone... for some understanding on these topics for some understanding on the world.... i wish everyone who read this book could understand what it is ACTUALLY about.
i will always defend xenogenesis with my whole chest it should be next to the bible in importance.
