Is it just me or does this book seam imcoplete. I mean it is a great book but she left to many loose ends I just wish she would have made it more complete in the end. :(

I ended up quite disappointed with this series. I know I loved it in the beginning. And as an adult, I still thought it was an interesting read. However, after reading all five books, I would not recommend these books for younger readers. They get more and more violent and gory as the series goes on. The characters were only 12 years old. However, by the end of the 5th book, they are acting well beyond their 12 years.
For example, the two main characters fall in love. If the characters were 15 or 16 years old, I would buy it. But, for 12 year olds it was weird and totally out of character. Not to mention all of the violent things that were going on. The author had 12 year old kids witnessing genocide, gruesome battle scenes, and human (and animal) suffering beyond what most people could handle. And not only that, but she has them participating in it. If you asked a 12 year old to grab a sword and start killing thinking, talking, intelligent being, he would be so messed up and that didn't happen.

So, in conclusion, I did enjoy this series. However, this series is not a good series for middle school students.

Oh and the ending stunk. Endings don't seem to be a strength of this author.

Picking up immediately where the previous book stops, Gregor finally reads the Prophecy of Time. The Warrior must die.

So there's war, some awesome Ripred scenes (he's my most favorite character!), Solovet being horrible, and Luxa and Gregor!

By the way, this book definitely has an anti-war agenda. I don't mind reading books with agendas (political, social, whatever - even if I disagree with it), but this one punched hard when we got there.

I loved this book up until the last few pages, when I wish we had been given a bit more closure - Especially since this book was written for younger kids (my son is reading the series too and I know he is going to HATE this ending).

One other thing that bothered me
Spoiler is how Collins essentially tells us at the end of the books that the prophecies weren't real. It's a bit of a let-down and somewhat unbelievable as well. Also, the fact that Sandwich the hero is suddenly turned into a bad guy seems a bit odd - but this is a good talking point with our kids about the founders of our country and their treatment of the natives here.

Overall, the book was a great read, though, and I still give the series 4 stars.

A good finish to a rocky story.
