Surprisingly, my favourite Bedwyn Saga so far!
I was not expecting to enjoy Freyja's story so much. But Freyja and Josh are perfect together. I loved their chaos. And I loved the slow reveal of their real characters.
And in this book we finally get the Bedwyns en masse. A formidable force against the villains of the story.
I enjoyed seeing things from Freyja's perspective, after the previous couple of books in the series. However, I found her pretty impossible to empathize with -- for one thing, please stop punching everyone all the time?!?!

Frejya and Joshua are my favorite kind of pairing in any story - a brooding asshole who's a secret softie and a sarcastic shit who brings out both a worst and best in their counterpart. I didn't love Frejya's "not like other girls" attitude, but I do feel like it was an important part of her character arc, so it didn't bother me as much at the end. I also feel like Balogh handled Prue well, especially for a historical romance written in the early 2000s, so props for that. The main things keeping me from rating it higher are how repetitive some of the language was and parts of the story felt kind of like a modern story with a historical filter, although not enough to completely take me out of the setting.

Not my favorite of the series, but in true Balogh style, still scratches the historical romance itch. Though fake dating is one of my least favorite tropes, Balogh manages to write a story of two characters that you find believable and who you root for despite some of the silliness that comes with fake dating.
Freya is not my favorite Bedwyn either. I don't always find the " I'm not like other women " heroines likable. It denigrates the gender in general. But once again, Baligh does it in a way that is tolerable. I also enjoyed her take on Joshua as the unserious playful rake. He was confident without seeming annoyingly arrogant. And his playfulness came across as just that, playful, rather than immature.
I enjoyed the involvement of the entire Bedwyn family as part of the plot. And as usual, Balogh does a good job showing the development arc of both Freya and Joshua.
