Slightly Scandalous

Mary Balogh

3.85 AVERAGE

My favorite of this series so far. I love the fmc and all her spunk. And I love the layers and the scandal and really everything about this book

I loved Freeja. Her wit and humor made her endearing and I also like that she wasn't a beauty. Would be five stars but I don't condone how she liked to punch people.

I can’t decide with this series. The love interests are more appealing to me than the family we follow. Frejya and Joshua made an interesting couple. I couldn’t figure them out and so I enjoyed exploring their motivations and beliefs. I certainly wouldn’t be friends with either one but in the end I liked them well enough l. Unfortunately I wasn’t overwhelmed by their romance.

I really liked this one. Which makes sense since it's the link between the Bedwyn saga and the my favourites from the Simply series. It's interesting to see the revelation of the dramatic, non-romantic B storyline from Joshua's side. Balogh does use 'haughtily' to describe Freya and the Bedwyns one too many times, but overall the dynamic between Joshua and Freya is so fun and tempestuous (and fake boyfriend/girlfriend trope, yep, I'm there). But it just doesn't feel as slight as the others, like there's real depth and muscle and sinew and life in the relationships - not just the romantic ones, but all the family ones (both blood and found) and that just gets me in the gut, every time.

Freyja was so perfectly not-like-other-girls, I should have hated her. But somehow I didn’t. She was annoying at times but most of the time she was just fun. She was still pining after Kit at the beginning but then she fell for Josh and was cured once and for all.

Josh was very handsome and always smiling and everyone loved him. The man didn’t have any single flaw. None. I know that’s how book boyfriends work but Mary overdid this one a little.

I like fake dating and fake engagements and I love reverse grumpy-sunshine, so it all worked very well for me. What bothered me a little was how similar this book was to Kit and Lauren’s. I would have preferred to think less about Kit when reading Freyja's story.

It was great to meet all the Bedwyns, even Aidan is improving. On to the next! When's Alleyne? I want Alleyne!!!

I hated Freya in the first two books because she was mean, especially to Lauren. However I always feel for the other woman and I know that she was being a bitch because she had her heart broken. I’m glad she’s getting a hea because I want everyone happy but also because I want her to stop pining after Kit!!!

Nice to see plots tied up and also see the beginnings of other stories. Freyja was an amusing heroine. I like the Bedwyns.
