It took me a bit to finish but I feel somewhat accomplished now. History is fascinating and we should all try to learn more about it. Washington is a fascinating person. No, he wasn’t perfect (show me a single person who is) but still extraordinary nonetheless.

McCullough does a great job of describing not only what the Americans went through but also the process perspectives of the British and loyalists. Something our textbooks often overlook.

Fantastic read.

One of the best histories of the American Revolution (or at least the events of the titular year 1776) that I've read --and I was a history major in college. Well-researched and very well-written with a ton of eyewitness accounts and commentary from people who were involved. Also, I enjoyed the fact that not all of the stories were told through the soldiers' or generals' eyes. McCullough makes great use of diaries and letters written by ordinary people. If you think you might be interested, take a chance. I think you'll enjoy it.
