What utter bullshit is this.

*Spoilers*

There were a lot of red flags (the baseless insta love, Blythe’s lack of personal interests/ambitions, the I’m-not-like-other-girls moments), but I hit my breaking point at Jennifer. You’ve just spent hundreds of pages telling me that these people are soulmates and connected on an unfathomably deep level, and now this motherfucker is ENGAGED to a girl he met a few months ago and doesn’t even love? I refuse to entertain this further, I’m so irritated.

I bought this when it came out because I loved Jessica Park's other books. I didn't read it. I thought about reading it and so many other books came out and I just pushed it to the back burner. I'm very sad that I didn't read this when it came out. This book was absolutely the most awesome book...like ever! Honestly, I laughed, I cried, I felt so bad for these people, and then I was happy, and then I was sad again, and then I laughed...and you know what. It was NOT what I expected this book to be about. I don't even know what I expected -- but this book exceeded EVERY expectation I had for it. I'm absolutely sad that I waited to read this.

Do not wait to read this book. This book has so much in it and you will not regret reading this book. it's just fabulous!

I'm not even sure how to write this review. The book definitely evoked some strong emotions from me. It's a heavy read. The characters you meet are all so broken and damaged. But as they bond, healing begins. And with that healing they form a friendship in a family setting. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of panty dropping scenes and moments that take your breath away. But the end result leaves you gasping for air and feeling like you can take on any of life's obstacles. The title is perfect.

Darn....there's a Part 2...now I need to buy it because I want to find out what happened. Entertaining book. Good narration (listened to the Audible book)

No. Just no. While reading this book I was forced numerous times to flip it back to the cover and check if indeed it was Jessica Park the same one that wrote the beautiful, deeply sensitive and equally funny and down-to-earth book Flat-out Love that wrote this one too. Because honestly it felt like it was written by some anti-talent, kind of a drama queeny twin sister of hers...

Even the scenes that were supposed to be "emotional" left me cringing and made me feel like I was reading some very badly written fan fanfiction by a 16 year old girl that knows nothing about how the real world works. And I know what you're going to say next: Duh, dummy, that's the whole thing about this book, it's fiction. But trust me guys when I say this, some things were just too far-fetched even for me.

Now don't get me wrong...I'm sure you'd like it if you were into the overly cliched
Spoilergirl goes through something bad, she's broken and things she's never going to love again, then girls meets boy, boy is exceptionally handsome, they have some amazing insta-chemistry/love, boy's sister is super boisterous and of course they become best friends and she gives her a makeover and boy has his own dark past but of course they save each other blah blah blah
but I myself have to admit that one of the many reasons I liked Flat out love so much was because of the incredibly surprising and original plot twist!

But oh well, all I can do right now is just wait and hope that the next JP book is going to be better...

This book kept me hurriedly flipping pages to find out what would happen next. I loved every second. Never disappointed by Jessica Park! This book is definitely explicit (tastefully though, in my opinion), not for young readers.

It was raw and real and a great story. At times, it was a little too graphic for my taste, but I can't say they didn't warn readers about the explicit sexual scenes.

After reading Flat Out Love, I did not hesitate to buy this book. Although Left Drowning has some elements that Flat Out Love had such as the very likeable side characters, I wasn't convinced by the connection between Blythe and Chris and some of their actions were out of character.
Spoiler A person who doesn't believe in marriage doesn't commit to getting married at 21 to avoid being with the person they love. That can't even be explained by being damaged. Avoiding Blythe or entering a long term commitment is one thing but marriage?
I understand that it is the trend to add sex to sell books but the book just felt like two damaged characters in porn. A good story, is a good story regardless of sexual content. Sex is a normal part of life so I have no problem with it being in a book but when it overpowers the story or the story isn't strong enough to put it into context, it is disappointing.

Yeah, this is a romance and yeah, it's erotic but it's also a compelling story about loss, redemption, forgiveness, and the healing power of friendship. And while there is tragedy, it's not depressing. In fact, there were moments that I found myself laughing out loud. The characters are so fully fleshed out that I completely fell in love with the Shepherd clan. How could you not love Sabin & Estelle? The love story between Blythe & Christopher is truly moving. The book came to a satisfying conclusion but I was sad to let the story and the characters go.
