Over the summer I was searching for a few 'holiday reads' and came across the wonderful 'Defending Jacob' - which I greatly enjoyed to the extent I wanted to seek out William Landay's other works.

Having finished 'Mission Flats' I can honestly say it is one of the best books I have ever read. The plot is gripping, the characters engaging and the pacing superb. I found the whole novel utterly scintillating - my only issue is that it took me so long to discover this book!

If you are a fan of the mystery/thriller genres, I would give this book the highest possible recommendation.

A good mystery especially if you love a good cop bad cop story. As in Defending Jacob, Landay gives you an unexpected but realistic ending.

I was pretty proud of myself, I had half the mystery solved pretty early. However, the rest was a surprise. I liked this far more than Defending Jacob. Solid mystery, great characters, interesting moral struggles.

Good solid mystery. I guessed part of it, but not all of it, and it was fun figuring out the why.

DEFENDING JACOB is one of my all-time favourite books, so I decided to read all of William Landay’s works. This one, his first, has the seeds of what will blossom into one of our greatest crime writers. It is a thrilling crime mystery that will keep you guessing, and his grounding in legal expertise and legitimate police procedures will keep you informed throughout the story.

This book is like a blindfolded roller coaster ride – starts off slow and steady then sends you through twists and turns, with no idea just how the ride will end. I picked this book up because I enjoyed the author’s latest book – “Defending Jacob”. Initially, I wasn’t as impressed but then I was hooked and in for the ride. Very enjoyable read – couldn’t put it down during the last 100+ pages.

I was anxious to read this book since I loved this author’s book, Defending Jacob. This one starts out slowly and has a few parts that drag, but was still a good read. I didn’t think it was as interesting as Defending Jacob though. In this crime thriller, when a well-known district attorney is found dead, a young police chief Is drawn into the investigation. There are some twists, although none that had the “wow” factor. There is a lot of procedural information about the case, and several sections that are more of the main characters thoughts than action which slowed the book down. Just an average read for me. 2.5/5 stars.
