“In the movies, salvation is cheap. So is innocence. You pay a quarter, and a quarter's worth is just what you get. Real life costs more, and most of the answers are different.“

A lovely read. I wasn’t expecting much out of this one to be honest - I wasn’t aware of it’s legacy or reception and was blown out of the water. It’s a captivating story and one that makes me want to live my life in a better way.
And that last line man.

Magnificent, really. This is kind of a more philosophical(?) of Stephen Kings books that I've read up until now. One thing that stood out is how he writes the unlikable characters. I don't think I've read a lot where the character was really there to irk and throw a wrench in things but he did a great job at eliciting negative emotions when Percy was present lol. It seems like there's never enough good, it's so easy and accessible to get all of the tragedies and discomforts. Not enough miracles and magic that lasts long.

It seems like every decade or so I fall into a reading binge—and I picked the perfect book to kick off this one. I once swore I’d never cry over a book, and yet… here we are. Like Paul Edgecombe, I find myself crying more easily the older I get.

I read a lot of Stephen King back in high school in the ’80s, so returning to his work now feels like revisiting a version of myself I don’t always recognize. The Green Mile—with its shifting between Paul’s past and present—somehow made me feel more connected to both my younger and older self at once. Both through the action of reading Steven King and the way this story was told.

Last night, I stayed up way too late tearing through the final ninety-something pages. Just like I used to. Some things really do come full circle.
