#1 was much better, at least a bit educational and informative. This #2 was so hard to get through because I wasn't connected to the events and thought Marjane was the cause of her own problems. It also got progressively darker in content, and with it my interest got less and less. I would have liked more emotion or personal anecdotes such as comment about the scented laundry (which is about the only gem that I can recall).

The sequel lacked the charm of the original but still had enough momentum to earn 4 stars.
Marjane goes to Austria! She now has the freedom to take off her veil and unveil herself away from Iranian fundamentalist. But what will she do with it?
'Culture and education are lethal weapons against all kinds of fundamentalism.'
It took several months to finish this book. Whilst part one focused on the history of Iran from the time the regime started to implement crazy policies, part two was mainly about her life in Austria. I enjoyed learning the main character’s history but became bored when she started to go wild, used drugs often and ended up living on the street. I could not relate to her anymore and left the book for a few months. The story got interesting again after she returned to Iran.
She was so fortunate to have such amazing parents who were so open-minded and supportive.

I can't and won't like a story where author tries to show how their sufferings led them to use drugs, playing the victim card or How their endurance lead them to where they are.
I might be wrong when I say this but I will say it anyways, ups and downs are part of life. Like everyone's life on this planet Earth. Of course, few are born with privilege, others are not but yet portraying yourself as a victim.... Nah not something I can admire or appreciate.
I have seen this in many autobiographies where author tries to gain sympathy by enumerating how tough there life was. And I want to say to them, well hello earth to you, that's how it is. Life sucks. For most of us. Still we carry on. The reason why I don't pick up autobiographies Coz I hate reading sob stories.
Maybe I took it wrong or maybe I missed something that clearly many seems to be empathetic towards it but this book just made me feel so angry that I thought of DNFing it but I didn't as usual.
