A really interesting thriller! The novel is well-paced and slowly builds up the mystery and the tension. Eventually you are feeling all of Jessica’s anxiety and fear and wondering just how it is going to play out and how she will survive. Dr. Shields is such a great villain in that she doesn’t appear to be a villain at all, but you just know that something is wrong.

An Anonymous Girl is a dark, psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.  Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down.  I had to know what was going to happen!

The book is written from two points of view: Jessica's and Dr. Shield's.  I liked Jessica right away, even if she did make some poor decisions.  Jessica is hardworking and loyal to her family.  She is burdened by guilt and victimized by memories of a sexual predator, but she is also strong and resourceful.  Yes, she does do things that make me cringe, but those things make her character more believable.

Dr. Shields, on the other hand, is cold and calculating.  Her parts of the story are written in a very impersonal style that reminded me of a lab report.  In many ways, the entire book is the sum total of her bizarre experiment.   All of this makes her an excellent antagonist.

The plot of the book moves rapidly, and the events line up really well.  The conclusion isn't exactly a surprise, but I liked the way everything came together.  The ending was quite satisfying.

If you are looking for a taut thriller, then An Anonymous Girl will be for you.

Jess Farris thinks she'll make some easy money taking part in a psychological survey on morality. Then she is chosen by the psychiatrist in charge, Dr. Lydia Shields, to take part in situational tests. The money is better than Jess can imagine. But things get weird when Dr. Shields seems to have manipulated Jess into revealing her fears and vulnerabilities, which Dr. Shields starts to use against Jess and for her own purposes. Several twists and turns, and an ending that left me unsettled.

Ok so first time trying out an audio book and finishing it! I would say the story was good! Kinda predictable in some ways but definitely some twists here and there. Definitely recommend for a light thriller more mystery.
I will always be a person who reads hard copy’s but while I’m working or driving this was a great introduction to audio books!

This was really good. The story kept you moving. There was character depth and intrigue to each one. I gave this 3 stars because the ending seemed anti climatic to me. The villain was not ruthless as she seemed. I was a expecting more to of the end. However, based on this book I would read another of them. I enjoyed the pace and story.

Great plot that could have made for a great book. I would not call the writers great storytellers. The characters just never felt real.

What a ride An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen has been. There is nothing quite as galvanizing as a well-drawn anti-hero. Jessica Farris, a freelance makeup artist, signs herself up for a psychology study being held at a local college because she needs the money offered. The study takes place in an empty room with only a laptop submitting the questionnaire. Jessica knows that a Dr. Shields is in charge of this study but has not met the professor. Soon Jessica is contacted to continue a more intense psychological evaluation while being well-paid. She agrees and soon starts thinking that all is not well. The rest you must read for yourself. Nothing will be as it seems. The story is fascinating and keeps up the tension till the last page. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys unpredictable psychological thrillers. Thank you to St. Martin's Press, NetGalley and the authors for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

5 mind blowing stars! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Did you ever have a book you saved, even though you got a copy really, really early, because you knew it would be good? I didn’t want An Anonymous Girl to be over long before I ever started reading it. The year-long wait until another book from this dynamite duo feels longer than a year! That’s a great thing in this case; these two authors are perfection together.

The Wife Between Us by these Hendricks and Pekkanen is my favorite thriller of 2018, and An Anonymous Girl is already vying for top position for 2019! Sarah Pekkanen and Greer Hendricks have topped themselves with this smashing effort. Wow! It’s written how all thrillers should be, with page-turning, effortless writing, and characters that keep you on your toes. A villain like no other. A fallible but relatable victim. This book is remarkable. Gosh!

A few details about the story just to pique your interest…

Jessica Farris is a make-up artist living paycheck to paycheck in NYC, and money is an issue for her like it is for many people. She finds herself participating in a paid psychological study on ethics…But from the start, something doesn’t feel right with it…But then again, Jess needs the money.

The study keeps going, becoming more invasive, and eventually Jess begins interacting directly with the psychiatrist in charge of the study, Dr. Shields. Jess develops a strong amount of paranoia early on, which never wanes though she doubts herself, again, because money is an issue.

An Anonymous Girl is a story of obsession, right versus wrong, and betrayal. There are creepy characters that will make your skin crawl, a character you may champion (I know I did), and a few characters in the middle that you just can’t figure out.

The chapters are the perfect length. The writing flows perfectly in a race to the finish of the book, and the tension builds at a nice pace. I was hooked very early, and I never lost my connection to this book. The storyline is massively original, full of twists and turns, and I will never forget this dark tale of suspense, deviousness, and questioning morality.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own.

(From my teaser review in December)
This was the book I read on my actual birthday earlier this week. It’s unputdownable, tense, completely original, and written with the easy flow I wish all thrillers had because it makes me flip through the pages that must faster, keeping the suspense going.

I will have my full review up in January on pub day, but until then, I have to say, The Wife Between Us by these authors is my favorite thriller of 2018, and An Anonymous Girl is already at the top of my list for 2019!

Back with another amazing suspense filled read, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen prove once again that their union as writers is strong and cohesive. An Anonymous Girl is smart and leads the reader chasing down the story and wondering just where things are going. I loved every minute reading this book and when I had to put it down I couldn't wait to get back to it. The story is brilliantly plotted with two central characters; Jessica Farris a mid twenties make up artist and Dr. Shields, psychology professor.

Told in alternating POVs, the readers' psyche is infiltrated and at times you wonder if one of even both narrators are reliable. The suspense is masterfully built as Dr. Shields pushes on Jessica's moral boundaries through her study and experiments. It's clear Jessica is uncomfortable at times (which left me uncomfortable to0), but she finds the money she's making a boon to her families situation. The reader spends time in Dr. Shields head and we witness her ministrations to manipulate Jessica's feelings and her life. There are definitely moments where I fretted over the good doctors motivations. As Jessica begins to question her role as Subject 52 and Dr Shields increases the pressure on Jessica the tension escalates.

There's truly a maze of conflicting evidence but it turn out Jessica has a good sense as a detective. By now the players include family members and past participants in the study and we're left to wonder if the risk is greater than the reward. But this isn't a game that Jessica can easily remove herself from as Dr. Shields is conniving and her motivations convoluted and eerie.

When all is revealed you'll find yourself reading and re-reading passages to piece it all together. This #MustRead duo has delivered another stellar and story centering around a duplicitous woman and her cunning plan to extract revenge and administer punishment. 5 Stars and recommendation!
