After recommending [b:The Wife Between Us|34189556|The Wife Between Us|Greer Hendricks|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1496862122s/34189556.jpg|55227731] to all my friends, just so I could have someone to rave about it with, I jumped on the chance to read a pre-release of [b:An Anonymous Girl|39863515|An Anonymous Girl|Greer Hendricks|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1524442757s/39863515.jpg|61659722] the minute it was offered. I knew the writing duo of [a:Greer Hendricks|16935182|Greer Hendricks|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1514922399p2/16935182.jpg] and [a:Sarah Pekkanen|2982045|Sarah Pekkanen|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1508184842p2/2982045.jpg] would knock their next thriller out of the park, and I was right.

Not wanting to give too much away, this is a deliciously dark story of obsession, manipulation and betrayal. The chapters in this creepily suspenseful drama alternate point of view between the struggling make-up artist Jessica and the preeminent psychiatrist Dr. Shields. We watch as Jessica, merely wanting to make some extra cash, volunteers for Dr. Shields's psychological study, which quickly becomes the emotional equivalent of quicksand. And we watch Dr. Shields protect her marriage, by some surprisingly extreme means.
So many secrets, so many lies, so much manipulation. Be ready for this novel to mess with your head.
A big thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this thriller in exchange for an honest review.

I stopped midway. As a psychologist, I found this book offensive. I couldn’t stomach the researchers lack of ethics.
Not gonna lie... This book got a little creepy...But a good creepy though! I've been wanting to find a good psychological thriller and this one hit right on the money. The author does a beautiful job in narrating the story from two perspectives; Jessica and Dr. Shields. All the characters were written dynamically as well. If it wasn't for work and school, I probably would have finished this book in a day..2 days max!
A quick-paced thriller that had me hooked. I enjoyed it, but didn't find it earth shattering or particularly creepy, like I had hoped.

Initially NetGalley allowed me to read a digital copy of this book in exchange for a review. I wasn't able to access this copy before it expired, so I listened to the published audio version of this book after it was released. This is my review of the published audio version.
I was gripped from the very beginning until the end of this book! Jessica Farris is a 28 year old struggling makeup artist in New York. Chance provides her a way into a psychological study on ethics and morality run by a mysterious Dr. Shields for some extra cash. Turns out this study opens the door for a lot more than Jessica bargained for. There were a lot of twists and turns to this novel that had me on edge a lot of the time. I enjoyed the characters and their backgrounds were believable/fleshed out. All in all, it was quite a chilling read!
My thoughts on the audio for this edition: Both voices did a phenomenal job, but the voice of Dr. Shields was extra on point! I can still hear her in my head... which is a bit unsettling but -shrug-.

There is a reason why I don't normally read this genre of book. They always seem to bee so flat and predictable. I haven't read a mystery thriller in a long time that brought something new to the table. I have to admit, this story wasn't terrible, but it wasn't new either. I wanted more. I wanted a surprise, but nothing pulled me out of the pages and made me say "Wow."
The one thing I did like was the premise of the story. A social experiment gone wrong, that makes the book readable.
I gave this book three stars because it wasn't terrible. I enjoyed the story and the writing was well done. I just wanted that Wow factor and didn't get it.

This was a perfectly average thriller that kept me on my toes. I listened to it in the car, while cooking, while going to sleep, and I haven’t had a book that easy to listen to in awhile. I love this writing couplet but this book fell short compared to their others I’ve read
Creepy. Long, slow start. Question who was the villian???
