4/5 stars:
The premise of this book sounded really interesting from the first moment I read it, especially because I’m a psychologist and I'm always in search of books wee psychology/psychologists are portrayed well. I was also curious to see if any actual psychology was going to actually influence the book and although a few studies and experiments are mentioned every now and again, there really wasn’t a lot of it in the story. Although this isn't the worst portrayal of psychologists/therapists I've ever encountered it also wasn't that good so I guess I'll have to keep searching.
Nevertheless, the plot of the book was pretty interesting and enjoyable. I really liked the beginning of it, especially. The dual POVs when the experiments were still taking place made things more mysterious and intriguing. The pace was nearly perfect, I think, as I was hooked from beginning to end.
Perhaps the weakest part of this book was its ending. It felt a little anti-climatic after having spent so much of the book being kept in tension. The final reveal/event is not surprising or impactful enough even though it felt like it should have been. It was like for the last 50 pages or so the stakes were just not high enough for our main characters and things unraveled a little too predictably.
Even so, I really liked the whole book and I found myself getting attached to the main characters a little more than I tend to do with mistery-thrillers' characters.
All in all, this was a very entertaining and quick read (I listened on audiobook and the production of it was great). I am really excited to read more collaborations by these two authors in the future.

Spoiler
The one thing I wish we could have gotten a bit more of exploration on is why Dr. Shields does certain things. We get things told from her POV but apart from "jealousy" and "being in love" it's like we don't get enough explanation about her motives. I think if her psyche would have been delved into a little more she could have become one of my favorite “villains” in a mystery-thriller.All in all, this was a very entertaining and quick read (I listened on audiobook and the production of it was great). Enjoyed it - really drew me in and kept me interested but the ending wasn’t super satisfying. Still a great book! Loved the way it was written.

I’ll start by saying this book hooked me once I got to about chapter 20 until I finished. I was addicted. But, I kept finding myself guessing most of the plot twists and the “twist” at the end that everyone said they “never saw coming.” It was a fun read, but the predictability and some plot holes made me remove one star from my review!

It’s a no from me. Interesting concept, but poorly written and boring. Most of the book felt like the reader was completely up to speed with everything and just waiting for the characters to catch up. No huge twists or reveals, everything was predictable except for maybe the last page. I would not read from these authors again.
Love these two. Writing a novel is difficult and writing a novel with someone else more so but they’ve nailed it twice and I’m here for it.
It was good. I was confused at times and overall just didn’t get the point. Lots of parts just seemed off, but overall it was still an interesting read.
