This one was just "meh" for me. It started out pretty interestingly, but was pretty easy to figure out once things were laid out. There was a bit of back and forth about who the "bad guy" was, but it didn't fool me.

characters were difficult to like. well written otherwise

The premise was intriguing and it started off very captivating. But it was a little too long and got boring in the middle. I just wanted to get to the conclusion. Everything was so obvious and you just wanted it to be brought to its conclusion because it was getting drawn out too much. I thought the memory of how her sister died was going to explain that Dr. Shields had been crazy all along but it really was an innocent teenage thing to do, to lock your sister out of the house so she would get caught for being out late when she was dating your ex. So her obsession with Thomas didn't seem to fit.

So intense! Loved it!

This book did not disappoint, and I like how it was written "straight-through" without changing time frames. So many books have a writer's POV, and then they go back to "3 weeks ago," and it's not chronological. There are 2 POVs, which is fine, and it's a very easy book to follow.

Jess is a 28-year-old makeup artist living in New York City. She is doing makeup for 2 NYU students one Friday night when she hears about a "morality study" which pays $500. Pretty easy gig, right? She decides to sneak her way into the study, and (not surprisingly) proves to be a very interesting subject. Dr. Shields is a beautiful, wealthy, and highly successful psychologist and NYU professor; it is she who is conducting the morality study in which Jess participates.

What happens next is definitely very odd, and Jess is right to question some of the non-orthodox (to say the least) field experiments. It doesn't take long for her to figure out that there's a lot more beneath the "perfect" shell of Dr. Shields...and the true nature of the study.
