I devoured this book In two days-couldn’t put it down! Definitely a twisty and suspenseful suspense thriller. Still trying to figure out if there is a likable character in the entire book with all of the deception, dangerous, and malicious cat and mouse games the factor of morale and ethics becomes very blurry!

Thank you St. Martin’s Press for the Advance Release Copy. I will be recommending this suspenseful and psychological thriller to library patrons, friends, and family members.

3.5/5 Stars from me! Overall it was a solid read that kept you on your toes! My only critique is I wish there were more clues provided before a big reveal, I feel some of the big twists came a bit out of nowhere. The character's go through very little development, minus Subject 52, who does a bit. I also wish there was a bit more to wrap up her story, her family was supposedly a larger driving point for most of her actions, but we really see very little of them, and there is no developments in her relationship with them. All in all it was a pleasant read, I really enjoyed all the psychological aspects and how the plot got deeper and more twisted as we moved from part 1 to part 3. Ultimately I would reccomend this to a friend as a good read!

AN ANONYMOUS GIRL BY GREER HENDRICKS & SARAH PEKKANEN BOOK REVIEW
You hop into a psychological study for some cash. It’ll be over quickly, right? Answer some questions, grab the cash & move on. Simple & carefree way to make some cash, huh? NOPE.

A WILD, PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER
This book is a wild ride. No doubt about that. I instantly connect with the main character, Jess. She’s a hard worker, a hustler in the best way, a daughter who tries to right by her family & is looking to advance her financial situation. Honestly, she’s got guts taking someone’s place in this research study. Instantly, I know she is a force to be reckoned with.

FATAL ATTRACTION VIBES WITH A CAT & MOUSE GAME
I will not give any spoilers friends. While the blurb describes Dr. Shields as manipulative, that’s the understatement of the year. This woman is slick, intelligent & I spent the majority of the book trying to figure out her angle.

Hendricks & Pekkanen write a psychological thriller that many readers will love. For me, the narrative moves a bit slow. I found myself trying to just get to the ending. Luckily, I really connected with Jess, so her character kept me engaged.

THE VERDICT
I am Not That Into This book. Let it be noted I enjoy the writing style of Hendricks & Pekannen enough I will pick up any of their books. Read An Anonymous Girl if you’re looking for a dark, twisted tale with cat & mouse type vibes.

This was one of my December Book Of The Month picks, which I grabbed without ever reading the synopsis. This dynamic author duo, who crafted the master piece of The Wife Between Us, is full of talent and I knew I wanted to read whatever other titles they released together, regardless of the subject of the content.

Anonymous Girl alternates chapters between Jessica’s point of view (the make-up artist who has signed up for an ethics/morality study) and Dr. Shields point of view (the psychiatrist who is conducting said study). Their tones are so very different–with Jess’ being more casual and laid-back, and Dr. Shields’ being more uptight, formal, and frankly…clinical. So you are really getting to, fairly quickly, see both sides to each story as the plot unfolds… but you are going to be missing some large chunks of backstory that will be very important, and that’s what you will find yourself page-flipping to find out more about.

The beginning of this novel is really very mild in the sense of thrillers–the most interesting pieces are the mystery of this clinical study on morality and ethics and getting to know our main characters. But a little less than midway through the novel, there comes a major shift where high levels of suspense, fear, and confusion are thrown into the mix– quickly becoming your traditional psychological thriller vibe!

While The Wife Between Us was a tough act to follow, I feel that Hendricks & Pekkanen have produced a very strong, entertaining sophomore installment to their work together. Anonymous Girl did not have the same major-impact twists and turns that I felt The Wife Between Us did though–they were a little more subtle. The resolution was fairly predictable for me, but the form of narration that the authors used made me question what I thought several times in the second half of the novel.

Overall, I would consider Anonymous Girl to be a must-read for those who like psychological thrillers, especially those that lean more on the domestic thriller side of the spectrum. While the narration was often at this cool, conversational pace, the novel ultimately read very quickly and I found myself yearning to get back to it when I wasn’t reading so I could see where the plot went from there.

Highly enjoyable and another major hat-tip to these two talented authors! I’m officially a dedicated fan and will read anything they release together!
