This book - wow. Twisted in so many ways and I loved it!!! “Wait...she did what?” “He did that?!” I could not put this book down. So very well written. I am so thankful I was chosen for an arc. I can’t stop thinking about it!!! May need to read it again, it was that good!!
dark mysterious tense medium-paced

I have been wanting to read something by these two ladies for quite some time. I have to admit, the writing here was amazing! They really knew how to draw a reader in and keep them there. I finished this in two days time. This had a very creepy vibe and I enjoyed that.

"Sometimes a relationship that appears caring and supportive carries hidden danger. Sometimes a therapist who coaxes out all of your secrets is holding the biggest one in the room."

I was so entranced by these characters and this study on morality. Some of the questions that Dr. Shields asked really made me think. What gives this book a more thrilling aspect was the second person viewpoint of Dr. Shields. The web of lies and just how everything was connected was really brilliant.

You’re probably wondering why I only rated it three. That is because of the big reveal. I was l down by how everything ended. The buildup towards the end was such a great journey and then it just fell flat. The ending felt rushed and I was expecting more.

All in all, I did enjoy most of this book. I will definitely be reading more from these two authors.

Another great thriller that had me up past my bedtime last night! I didn't totally love the ending, and the book could have been a tad shorter, but overall this was another win for me!

Actual Rating: 3.5 stars

A woman signs up for the wrong research study in this adult mystery thriller.

Attempting to capitalize on the darling of domestic mystery thrillers, An Anonymous Girl explores a toxic marriage and the woman caught in the middle. It’s told from two different perspectives – Dr. Shields, a professor conducting research on ethics, and Jessica, a participant of the research study. The dueling narratives provide a fun back and forth between the two women as the plot cleverly unveils their various intentions.

I may have enjoyed the overall plot, but I found the characters to be unlikable. Dr. Shields is probably the most enjoyable despite her obvious problematic behavior. Her cold, analytical point-of-view brought something unique to the genre. Jessica, however, was a boring drip of a character. I didn’t find her to be complex, interesting, or all that sympathetic. Not to say she is awful, I just felt pretty “meh” about her. The rest of the characters are not as richly drawn as Dr. Shields and Jessica, making it hard to really connect to any of them.

tl;dr While I enjoyed the mystery, I didn’t particularly like the characters.

I was into the story… but I couldn’t stand Dr. Shields inner dialogue by the end

3.5 stars is more accurate. Gosh, this book was FUN. I completely devoured it and had so, so much fun following the twists and turns, the drama and the deceit. I surprised myself by not being able to figure out exactly what was going on until it was practically on top of me, and even then there ended up being some fun to it. It reminded me a lot of "A Simple Favor", and I can totally see the camp potential should a film ever be made. Jess is a really well-written character, Thomas is straight up garbage, and Dr. Shields is perfectly designed as well. I can see why the wait list was so long for this one and I'll definitely be recommending it for beach/fun reads.

Really enjoyed it, kept me guessing til the end. Curious about the reasoning behind the passive voice.

So at 170 pages in to An Anonymous Girl I messaged a friend who I saw gave this book 4 stars and asked "why the heck did you like this? It's so slow!" and she promised me it would pick up. She was right, it did — but not enough to overcome the incredibly tedious set-up of the first half of the book.
