this was an interesting read! It was very easy to read and there were twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was also able to connect with the main character and root for her along the way. I think the main reason I’m giving this a 3.5 as opposed to a 4 star rating is that the ending seemed a bit rushed and left me wanting more. The ending didn’t seem as well thought out and written as the rest of the book was. However, I am still satisfied with the ending and believe every character got what they deserved.

A psychological thriller based on an ethical study... sounds good, right?

It’s not.

The plot: A+. Great twists and a fun ride!
Other elements in the book: meh.

I started this book and could not continue. Something about it just didn't flow for me.
There were instances in the writing where it felt like it was trying too hard to be deep. For example, in the beginning we are introduced to Jessica, the protoganist, who is a makeup artist. She was carrying around her heavy makeup bag but "guilt is always the heaviest thing I carry". I meannnn.....come on. There were many instances like that that made it seem like there was an attempt to be very deep but it didn't work. At least for me.
The other part is the "psychology" part of this. The study Jessica was part of and the questions Dr. Shields asked seemed....too trivial? It sound like someone just learned about basic concepts in psych and spewed it all over the book.

It also really annoyed me how Jessica would follow directions blindly without thought. I understand that Dr. Shields is supposed to have a magnetic pull but at times it got too ridiculous. The robotic manner and second person writing in the chapters Dr. Shields narrates are big excessive and rather annoying.
Wow. How many times have I used the word annoying in this review?!

I can see this book being made into a series. It has a very twisted plot and keeps you guessing.

I like reading books without reading the synopsis.
I had no idea what the book was about.
I enjoyed the setup of the book.
I did get confused in some parts, but mostly, I followed along.

I would definitely recommend it. I read the audio version.

Super dark and twisted. My favorite.

mysterious fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

An Anonymous Girl was a gripping thriller that hooked me immediately. I love when a book draws me in right away and keeps me reading until the end. After reading, The Wife Between Us, also authored by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, I had to read An Anonymous Girl.

Jessica is a makeup artist and overhears a message left for a client about a psychological research study that pays its participants. When she learns her client isn't planning to participate, Jessica goes in her place. It's interesting that Jessica is using morally questionable methods to get involved in this research study that ends up being on morality and ethics. Jessica's relationship with Dr. Shields, the psychology professor overseeing the study, evolves and goes beyond the study. This was a fast-paced book I really enjoyed, although it left me with some questions at the end. I wish I had someone with whom I could discuss this book!

This thriller focuses on a woman who immorally enters a morality study with a crazy psychologist. Some points were a little slow but most of the time I couldn't pry myself away.
I'm putting this as my book read that was published this year for #extremebooknerdchallenge2019

Drags out a bit too long, sense of danger was weak and the ending even weaker. Yet still managed to be an engaging read.
