An Anonymous Girl

I absolutely love every novel Sarah and Greer write. Ugh. Obsessed.

This one left me wanting a little more. I couldn’t get into it until about halfway through the book. It did get really interesting and suspenseful for a while, but the ending was anticlimactic.

💻 📱💻BOOK REVIEW!!!💻 📱💻
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

💻 Thrillers come in all shapes and sizes. You’ve got the “Oh hey! I’m just gonna stab you in the face real quick, then lock you in a cage and maybe for good measure I’ll bury you alive” thriller. You’ve got the “I’m so sick and twisted, that I’m going to mentally torment the crap out of you until you go insane” psychological thriller. Lastly there’s the “dainty thriller”...not the most sane humans who make some pretty poor choices, but not too far off from how your most insane friend might act one day. An Anonymous Girl is a dainty thriller.

📱Jess is a 20-something, Manhattan-living, freelance make-up artist. She could use some extra cash so she sneaks into a morality and ethics study with the elusive Dr. Shields. The study forces Jess to recall some of her poor choices and a history that she’d rather leave in the past. The study takes a turn when Dr. Shields begins to slowly immerse herself into Jess’ life and has her push the ethics envelope quite a bit further in exchange for a buttload of cash. Jess slowly comes to realize that this ethics study might actually be one of the most unethical things she’s ever taken part in. Even more unsettling, Jess gets the feeling that this may not be a study at all...that perhaps she is merely a pawn in Dr. Shields’ sick little game.

💻 The first half of this book was “eh”. A bit slow and uneventful. Sadly, you needed to put in zero thinking effort to figure out exactly what was going to happen and why. Everything was laid right out there for you. The book was enjoyable and I 100% needed to see how it all played out...but it just was not the thrilling “I sawed your leg off and drugged you for fun” thriller that I adore.

This wasn't as brilliant as [b:The Wife Between Us|34189556|The Wife Between Us|Greer Hendricks|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1496862122l/34189556._SY75_.jpg|55227731], but it was still an engaging read/listen.
I never knew who the real bad guy was and whenever I tried to make my mind up about it, some new evidence came to light that change everything.
Up to the very end I was still on the fence.

My expectation might have been a bit too high, because I kept waiting for the shame shock to hit, as in [b:The Wife Between Us|34189556|The Wife Between Us|Greer Hendricks|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1496862122l/34189556._SY75_.jpg|55227731]; but it never came.

This is another one that if I could re-read again for the first I would. It was so so good!

Still shocked by how boring this was

Fascinating

2.5 stars. Predictable and a tad boring. I had really high expectations after reading “The Wife Between Us” but was definitely let down.

Pretty good. It had many more twists than I was expecting, which I appreciate. I like that different plot points didn't end up with happy endings but there were two things that didn't get resolved for me so I needed just a little bit more.

This is a difficult book to review.
On one hand, I couldn't put it down but then there were huge chunks that were really annoying and I struggled not to skim through.

Jessica is a make-up artist living in New York. Through choice, she doesn't have many close friends, but she's happy living on her own with the dog that she rescued and hooking up with men every now and again. She struggles with money though and signs up for a psychological study which is being conducted by Dr. Shields. Jessica assumes that this will be easy money - answer a few questions and that'll be that.

But before long the questions that she is answering become more invasive and Jess is told to be in certain places, wearing certain clothes and to speak to certain people.
Jess begins to feel paranoid and as though Dr Shields is watching her every move. Jess starts to wish that she hadn't been quite so honest in her answers and before long she is wondering who can be trusted.

Through reading this, one begins to see just how easy it can be for someone else to subtly collect some very sensitive information without you realising it.

I don't think I actually warmed to anyone in this book - but I don't think that was a negative and certainly didn't stop me from wanting to finish the book.
