When her mother breaks her leg, recently unemployed Megan Kramer is asked to take her place as a temporary nanny for the daughter of a family friend. Single dad Chase Marshall's job sometimes requires him to go out of town overnight, and with his 14-year-old daughter Kennedy in the throes of teenage rebellion, he's concerned about leaving her alone.

For years, Chase has avoided dating so that his daughter wouldn't get attached to women who might not become permanent fixtures in their lives, so his immediate attraction to Megan is an unwelcome development. His instinct is to keep her at a distance - preferably all the way back at her mother's house in Dallas. He needs her help, however, so he's forced to swallow his pride and ask her to stay. He's clear that his daughter is his priority, and as much as he might like to act on his and Megan's mutual attraction, that won't be happening. Famous last words...

This was such a fun story! I particularly enjoyed Megan and Chase's fiery chemistry and witty banter, as well as the evolution of Kennedy's relationships with both Megan and Chase over the course of the story. Most of the single parent romances I've read have involved younger children, so the inclusion of a teenager in this one was a refreshing change and gave rise to a unique set of challenges. Kennedy and Chase went through a lot over the years, but Megan turned out to be exactly what they needed to make their family complete.

Overall, I loved "More Than I Could" and highly recommend it for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. I look forward to Locke's next release.

Chase Marshall is tired.  He's coming home from work, his shoulder hurts like hell and he knows he's going home to a rebellious teenage daughter. The last thing he needs is to stop by the side of the road to rescue a spitfire of a woman who's having car trouble. She's infuriating to boot! And since Life seems to be really into playing tricks on him, lo and behold, she's the one who's supposed to show next morning to be his temporary nanny. This was arranged by his mom, who's going out of town, and someone needs to watch 14-year-old Kennedy who seems to be determined to get into trouble.
Megan is a little lost. She was laid off from a job she was good at but never really loved and she's not heartbroken about it. She hasn't found another job yet, so why not nanny for her mom's friend's son? Now why did he have to be the aggravating man who "helped" her the day before?
Chase is afraid of having her right there in his house ALL THE TIME. She's too tempting... but hey, it's only a month... right?
All the feels in this one! I loved Chase and Megan, They start out very instalust-y but soon you see they're like pieces of a puzzle that belong together, along with Kennedy.
It's a lovely tale of "belonging", of finding your HOME.
In true Adriana Locke fashion, she makes you fall in love with all the Marshalls. I can't wait to read more about them.
Possible triggers: mentions of death of a parent, child abandonment, bullying, "surprise child"

More Than I Could
By Adriana Locke
Narrated by Maxine Mitchell, Tor Thom

Talk about a fun meet cute! Adriana Locke starts this story out with a bang! Megan is having car trouble and who should stop? Chase is there, giving her a hard time, has no idea who she is and both now have bad impressions of each other! Now they find out she is the nanny that Chase's mom hired to watch out for his daughter! Will it work? Well, first of all, this single dad, enemies to lovers story is filled with humor, true teenage angst, unbelievable bullying and passion! How could I go wrong? Chase is a tough nut. I love his priorities, but also how he can see his mistakes as things happen. Megan is feisty! She doesn't take any guff from anyone, is loyal to a "t" and will fight for those she loves. This book is the perfect pacing of a love story, building on lust and love. I especially love the secondary characters, would love to hear Gavin's story. He is quite a character! Locke has given her heart to this one and I loved every minute!

Tor Thom and Maxine Mitchell are our storytellers, and what story they tell! Thom is the grumpy, single dad, not giving an inch! I love his growliness and when it turns, his heart is on his sleeve, all with an inflection in his voice, melting my heart in the process. Mitchell comes in full force as Megan! Every emotion Megan has comes through, from anger and frustration to teasing and undeniable love. It's a fantastic pairing for this couple and a listen that will stick with me.

This book had everything that I love in a small town romance. It had a broody but sweet Chase. It had a strong, independent but afraid Megan. Throw in a teenage daughter, great parents, quirky brothers and a brilliant sister and you have the gold in the romance department.

This book had a lovely cast of characters, depth, real life problems, insecurities and love. I enjoyed every moment. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
