Good book on how to do positive reinforcement training. I knew very little about this topic before this book, and now I feel prepared to train my two new dogs. It's a nonfiction guide book, so it's not exactly literature, but my kids liked it and found it more approachable than Pat Miller's "The Power of Positive Dog Training", which we also read.

Brief and helpful to a beginner dog owner. The author does not use aggressive means to train dogs, which I appreciate. It all seems to make sense and I’ve been implementing these techniques on a puppy, and it seems to be working.
The criticism is that the writing is not good. I understand this isn’t supposed to be great literature but at times I found it repetitive and a bit irritating (not irritating enough to stop, however).
Overall, a useful guide for anyone who wants to own a dog or is working on retraining one. I would recommend this if you feel overwhelmed because the book covers how to obtain a dog, features a checklist of what you need to buy before the dog gets to your home, and details the process of bringing your dog home all the way to training him/her.

I’ve never had a dog of my own before, so I found this book very helpful. It isn’t in depth on every subject, but it does give a good overview. I’m sure his YouTube channel provides the same information, and that might be more useful for some people, but I prefer to learn by reading so this was a good option for me.

It's comprehensive - definitely good for the first time dog owner and a good starting point but since I've had dogs for well over a decade, it was just a decent refresher on how to start training a puppy.

This is definitely a helpful read for anyone about to adopt a puppy or looking to just refresh any dog’s training or to reconnect with their dog! I love this approach and perspective of dog training. The book is very practical and helpful for getting started and going far with training and connecting with your dog!
