Very informative, particularly great for new dog owners but can also be useful for dog owners who would like to learn how to become positive trainers.
I found it slightly off putting how everyone the author talked about was gendered. Everytime he spoke about the reader's dog instead of referring to the dog as 'they' they author would say 'she' for about a chapter and then switch to 'he' for the next chapter.

I think there is a lot of useful information here but it isnt an effective medium for me to learn this stuff. I am going to check out some of his videos and sign up for classes.
I’m a big believer in Zak George’s training methods. I watched his “New Puppy” videos ahead of bringing home my pup last year, and he has a ton of excellent advice to share with dog owners with varying levels of experience.
This isn’t fully a book about training dogs. A significant portion of it talks about choosing a breed, vaccinations, shelters, breeders, etc. It had a lot of valuable information that is definitely evidence-based, but it was also kind of irrelevant to me at certain points. The structure is also very disorganized, as George tries to talk about puppies, rescues, adult and senior dogs, etc. I think the book could have benefitted from a more linear structure. Overall, it was a good guide, but I don’t know if I would revisit it – his YouTube videos are more informative.

Great resource for a new puppy or if you want some training tips. I trained my 9 year old Yorkie “down,” “up,” “watch me,” and “leave it” in about 10 minutes. (She already knew sit and stay.) Who says you can’t teach a dog new tricks?! Plus, the Louisiana connection is cool.
101 course for dog owners. This could be the first book that you ever read about dog training. It’s brief, covers basic stuff, nevertheless it’s worthwhile and a good first pick if you’re thinking about having a dog or just got one. It also covers how to choose a dog, so reading it beforehand would bring additional value.
