It was an easy read, but the first 70% or so dragged a little bit. I also hated that the synopsis (blurb) and the title gave away something that the MC doesn't learn until 40% into the book. It's hard to say that I liked the last 25% the most. But I would also have to admit that it was an extremely unique take.

She woke up in the river, wet, cold….and maybe dead.
Annie Lane doesn’t have a lot of people who care for or about her. So, no one is overly concerned when she goes to a party to fight with her boyfriend and then goes missing. She drags herself out of the river and over to the mansion in the ghost town called Chapel Hill, and there she finds her family, who will help set things right. In this thriller suspense novel, the ghosts are solving the murders, and the suspects aren’t who you might imagine.
This was a meh experience. There are some plot problems, but an engaged reader might overlook them. The Chapel Hill Ghost Story isn’t well fleshed out, which was sad. There is smoking, alcohol use, and one sex scene on the page, but the plot is perfect for high school or older middle school.
This was a fun quick read about a girl, Annie, that wakes up murdered, which is always such a weird sentence. Because she is on this special mountain when she does, and her body remains there, she has the chance to come back and haunt/solve what happened to her. She meets a crew of fellow ghost its, each with their own outlook on the afterlife.
Annie had a reputation while alive and no one seems all that worried that something might have happened to her. As she learns what happened from her shady and stupid ex and his shitty friends, she also learns that her best friend Maura had gone missing at the same time as her. The solve is surprising for the true deceptive and awful nature of it, and I always love a true surprise in a murder mystery.

3.5 stars. I raced through this one. It was good! I loved the writing, the characters, the setting, and the pacing. The trigger warnings are spot on, so keep that in mind. There are a lot of plot holes in this one too. The main thing that bothered me, and has with other books too, is the weird 66 year old ghost man likes the 17 year old girl. Same for 100 year old vampires liking 17 year old girls. Maybe ghosts forever remain mentally at the age they died? It’s just weird to me.
This was a BLAST. I loved the FMC and I loved that some of the parts reminded me of Beetlejuice (the afterlife operator) what a fun and unique story.

So good and I did not see the killer coming!
In order for her to rest in peace, she must figure out who killed her. But some girls never rest in peace…
