Amazing as ever!
I love Claire Douglas' books, she is such an amazing writer and her books are always interesting and absorbing. I worried that a short wouldn't do her justice but as ever she has pulled it off with amazing skill. Loved it!

I got this for free on Amazon a while back and decided to read it as I was looking for something quick to read and I enjoyed it.
Emily is angry with her boss Andrew as he won't let her have some time off to go on holiday so on her way home she text's her boyfriend that she hope he does let her have time off only instead of writing does she writes dies and not only does she send the text to her boyfriend but she sends it to everyone at work.
Emily doesn't realise that she made a giant typo until later on and by some strange coincidence Andrew is murdered after the text is sent and no one believes her when she tells them it was a typo.
This story keeps people guessing and has a satisfying ending even though it is only 40 pages long. The author also manages to fit a lot into those 40 pages giving the readers plenty of suspects.
This short story is very realistic and could happen to anyone as I'm sure everyone has sent a message with typos (maybe not wishing someone dead though).

The Text by Claire Douglas is a crime thriller. It revolves around the sudden death of a person when a text is accidentally sent to the office group. It will change the life of a female protagonist. The cover page is appealing, and that's one of the reasons I chose this book.
The main character is Emily Latimer; she works in an office under Andrew. Emily lives with her boyfriend, Stuart. She plans a trip to Edinburgh, but Andrew doesn't give her time off.
Furiously, she typed a text to send her boyfriend, but she sent it to the office group by mistake. The next day, a dead body was found. Emily creeps out when she finds out that someone close to her did something horrible and has secrets.
The story is fast-paced, but the plot isn't well executed. The story has an office romance, abusive behaviour, gossip, jealousy, and suspense, but it lacks proper characterization. There are a handful of characters who don't have a space to grow with time, and women are portrayed as weak ones.
Men like Stuart and Andrew are easily seen in real life, who think that a woman has to stay at home and take care of children. The story starts with a text and ends with it too. The language is simple. I wish for a good suspense story, but Claire Douglas failed to deliver that. If you like short stories then give it a try.
