Short, I agree with all other reviews that this story could have been an entire book. But the message of the story is great!

Short yet power packed, this can be read in almost 30 mins! A short thriller with an intriguing storyline and an unforeseen twist!! I enjoyed it thoroughly and will recommend it to everyone who'd like to read something quick yet incredible!

Emily has been looking forward to her girls weekend for months, and now her boss, Andrew, is saying he’s not sure she can have the time off. When Emily mistakenly sends a furious message meant for her boyfriend to her office group chat, including a typo leading to the sentence ‘I hope he dies’, she is mortified. But when police show up on her doorstep the following day, saying that Andrew is dead and that they are questioning his colleagues, she is more than just mortified - she is scared.

There are only a few people who saw the message Emily sent, only a select group who know about her typo, and the implications it holds when Andrew is found dead. A list of suspects, tied up in a neat bow, and you’re not sure who to trust and who not to. There were a good few twists in this story, ones that make you have to restart your brain from the beginning as it tries to solve the murder. Some things are thrown off course, and nothing seems to come to a conclusion until the author wanted it to, keeping me firmly engrossed in the story as I tried to get ahead, and failed. The characters felt incredibly real, especially with how they were affected by Andrew’s death. It chilled them, that someone they knew had been murdered. This story did not take me very long to read at all, maybe about half an hour, so it is the perfect quick mystery to guess about as you read it.
mysterious fast-paced

Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This is a extremely short book at only 40 pages, but it is enjoyable none the less.

I think we have all sent a message to the wrong person ( luckily I haven’t to my boss!) this short story shows the impact of such actions perfectly

This clever little short story is currently free to download, and perfect to read on a phone while in a waiting room or stuck in a queue.

Emily Latimer has booked a trip to Edinburgh with her friends but now her new boss wants her to work instead. Furious, she sends a text to her boyfriend telling him the news, adding that she hopes her boss dies - but accidentally includes her entire office group. The next day the police turn up on her doorstep. Her boss has died and she is high on their list of suspects - but what if the murderer is one of her friends?

The Text is listed as having 40 pages, but the story ends at about 65% and the rest is an extract from one of the author's novels, Last Seen Alive. But it is a little gem of a murder mystery, packed with twists. I felt as though it ended a bit abruptly, but I think that is because I was enjoying it so much - I just wanted it to carry on! Recommended!

1.5⭐️
kindle short by an author i quite like. honestly, it had potential with the moral story of the plot line but if you’re going to make a short story: 1)don’t make it so predictable and 2) don’t make the ending so boring

My thoughts: The Text is a very short story (43 pages to be precise) and follows a murder mystery who-done-it storyline whereby our female protagonist has been scorned by her boss and autocorrect causes her to be the prime suspect in his death.

In 43 pages, it is exceptionally difficult to not only write a fulfilling plot as well as be able to develop characters that the reader could connect with, and unfortunately this is where the novella fell short for me.

Whilst I absolutely agreed that Emily’s boss was an absolute d**k there just needed to be wider context to make it believable that she could literally want him dead other than refusing a few days annual leave - although we’ve probably all had that feeling
fast-paced

Very quick, easy read. Possibly would have been better as a longer book though. I haven’t read a thriller short story before and was intrigued how it would work. Love the idea but felt a bit rushed.
