A collection of works by natives and their stories. This book is especially for native women & teens who I feel would especially connect to this book. I'm glad to have read these pieces and listen to all the collaborators voices.

This was on our mock Caldecott cart for my picturebook class, so I’m gonna go ahead and classify this as nonfiction children’s/YA lit–and even if that wasn’t the age group intended to read this, I’d still argue that children and young adults would highly benefit from reading this, or even just looking at the artwork.
Everything in this anthology is original and credited to its author or artist. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen in the literature world, which means that it’s succeeded in its goal–because a book about and celebrating Native American women shouldn’t look quite like the literature world, which is so often dominated by white men.
I learned quite a lot from this book, and it’s definitely worth taking a look at–I’d definitely recommend it if y’all want to learn more about contemporary indigenous issues, because who’s better to talk about Native American issues than Native Americans?

Beautiful and heartbreaking view of native american culture and the impact of decades of American colonialism.
