I am absolutely going to come back and fully review this book… it was stunning. One of the first books I’ve read this year with an actually satisfying ending. Definitely YA, there was a fair amount of gore, some light romance, and LGBTQ+ content. But it was very well written, especially for a debut.
Loved the pacing, world politics and the twists! The idea of these four cultures united yet separate and ruled matrilineally was a super compelling concept! Surprisingly I got pretty attached to all the queens even though I knew they were dying. Props to Scholte for that. I was almost surprised when they actually did die. Plus, the laws and the cultures of Archia and Eonia were interesting! I would read more content set in this world. The main issue for the story was that everything wrapped up a bit too nicely for the seriousness of the plot and it made the payoff more frustrating than satisfying.

This book was so mysterious and adventurous, I loved it! It was the perfect mix of murder mystery and a slow burning romance. I loved how Keralie evolved and how she was part of the major plot. It was so amazing!

Um livro cheio de surpresas! Gostei bastante, fácil de ler, bom ritmo e boa história.
A wonderful fun ride that keeps you guessing to the very end!
Esteve muito perto de levar as 5 estrelas.
Da maneira que está escrito não se torna massudo mas fiquei com a sensação que existem alguns pormenores onde a autora poderia ter ido mais além.

I recommend this book for any Sci-Fi/Fantasy lovers.
The book follows a thief named Kerelie who gets unwittingly caught up in a plot to not just overthrow the four queens of Quadara, but to assassinate them.
The book feels fragmented by design with each queen residing over essentially a genre of fantasy, which helps cement just how divided the nation is. I'll admit that it was jarring at first trying to anchor the story to a place or time while slogging through the world-building stage, but Scholte's plan paid off with masterful storytelling and compelling characters.
Once things started falling into place, I couldn't put Four Dead Queens down.
