This middle grade mystery is the sequel to “Greenglass House”, which I equally loved. We are once again brought into Milo’s peaceful Christmas vacation, that ends up being less peaceful than he would like. I enjoyed reading about Georgie, Clem, Meddy, and Milo again, and I also loved being introduced to new characters. The mystery was just mysterious enough, and I loved the introduction to folklore that made me want to search for more.

It was a cute and cozy read just like the first one, but it was longer than it needed to be and lacked a good twist.

Unfortunately, I cannot gush as much about this as I did about the first book in this series. My favorite characters are back, and Milo is just as smart as he was in the first book, but the overall story is just a little too far-fetched this time. The pieces of the mystery just don't seem to come together to make a cohesive story, in my opinion. That being said, I still love how the author portrays these characters. I particularly love how the adults and the kids interact, because it feels authentic to me. I also really enjoy the stories the author includes within the main story. But it just wasn't as good as Greenglass House (#1).

I love this world. I love Milo, Meddy, Georgie & Clem. I love the folklore featured so heavily thus far in the series. I love seeing Milo recognize how he can use things he perceives as his weaknesses into his strengths. I love the mystery. I love the setting. I just really enjoy this series!

I think about this book and the first book in this series and how much I want to read them again about once every 1-2 weeks so I feel I had to bumped the rating from 4.5 to 4.75

This took me FOREVER to get through. Part of that was because I stupidly started reading it while my daughter was reading it so we had to share. But another big part of it was that I wasn't immediately grabbed by this one as I was by the first. In fact, I would venture to say that this could have been at least 150 pages shorter. Luckily it picked up and got more interesting at the end.
