Very good book.

Short review for this one because I never really know how to review children’s literature that I did not read as a child (I’m not the target audience and I have no nostalgia). That’s a discussion for another time though.

While the individual episodes did not always grab my attention, and the children’s actions were at times unusually nonsensical (I know they are kids, but come on…), altogether the book made for a fun springtime read, and I grew to love the entire cast of characters, along with Nesbit’s enchanting writing. Still, I cannot bring myself to give it more than 3/5 stars. For me, it just lacks the special spark of magic that makes Nesbit’s spiritual successors of A. A. Milne and C.S. Lewis so special. Again, that’s likely because I didn’t read it as a kid and now miss out on the nostalgia factor.

I do love classic children's fiction, how different the world (and story) was for children 100 years ago, so much more freedom to go adventuring without adults, to take risks and learn from their mistakes. The inventiveness of the wishes and what happens with them makes for an enjoyable story and the five children are amusing and likeable.

3.5⭐️ A fun children’s story about four siblings who find a sand creature who grants wishes. The results are silly and also predictable. A quick and enjoyable read for children. I wish I had read this story when I was younger. I think I would have enjoyed it more.

I was listening to this on Audible and my kids finished it without me 😄 I listened to enough of it to enjoy it and not have to try and figure out where I was and replay the end

I love dark British fairy tale-esq stories.

Couldn’t get into the narrator.
