This is the best book that I’ve read in a long time. I couldn’t put it down. I also liked that the author’s note explained what was historical and what was fictional making the book even more fascinating about the female spy network.

I think my complaints echo what many others have said in the reviews—- I really enjoyed Eves story and the actual historical pieces. Charlie however was annoying and more of a chick lit which did not fit with the heroism and power in Eves story.
Also I just got really mad at the end. I couldn’t help but compare the “face to face with your enemy” portion to Corrie Ten Boom… and Corrie chose forgiveness. Now I know Corrie was a godly woman and also real.. Eve was a fictitious character in the story and maybe chose the more typical human response of revenge… but I still was very annoyed by the ending moral. Plus the hallmark ending was incredibly annoying.

Very very good book about an under appreciated part of the Great War, the spy network of Alice. On top of a thrilling yet harrowing spy story, there is also the story of Charlie St Claire and her quest to find her cousin. Expertly weaving two compelling stories together into a single narrative, I would say this was a great read.
