This book is the YA mix of Pennywise from Stephen King’s IT, the Creeper from Jeepers Creepers and maybe some Hawkins vibes from Stranger Things. Honestly, I kinda forgot it was more YA for a bit as the eeriness, the way bodies were taken/found and need to figure out what is going on in this town dragged me in so fast. More than most YA thrillers. This is my first book from this author and for sure won’t be my last now.

REVIEW: WHERE HE CAN’T FIND YOU BY DARCY COATES

RATING: 3.75/5

SYNOPSIS: DON’T WALK ALONE, OR THE STITCHER WILL FIND YOU.

Abby Ward lives in a town haunted by disappearances. People vanish, and when they’re found, their bodies have been dismembered and sewn back together in unnatural ways. But is it the work of a human killer…or something far darker?

DON’T STAY OUT LATE, OR THE STITCHER WILL TAKE YOU.

She and her younger sister live by a strict set of rules designed to keep them safe―which is why it’s such a shock when Hope is taken. Desperate to get her back, Abby tells the police everything she knows, but they claim their hands are tied.

DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES, OR THE STITCHER WILL REMAKE YOU.

With every hour precious, Abby and her friends are caught in a desperate game of cat and mouse. They have to get Hope back. Quickly. Before too much of her is cut away. And before everything they care about is swallowed up by the darkness waiting in the tunnels beneath the home they thought they knew.

this was a fun thriller/horror!! it is YA so it is easy to comprehend and very easy to fly through. i read the physical copy & it had artwork at the beginning of each ‘part’, so that was a fun added bonus! it did feel a litttttle long imo (roughly 400 pages), but i will definitely be reading more of darcy coate’s work, as this was my first of hers!

Perfect spooky read before Halloween!

The Plot:
Abby Ward lives in a small haunted town. People go missing then turn up later sewn back together all wrong with red thread. The Stitcher haunts the town, taking its residents and polluting the area around it, messing with technology and corrupting the animals.

After Abby's sister, Hope, gets taken in the night, Abby knows she must find the Stitcher and get her back before it's too late.

My Thoughts:
Pros - This book was the perfect mix of YA and Horror. I loved that the Stitcher was creative and new and so macabre. I would love to see this as a movie because those descriptions of the poor victims is absolutely gruesome. I also thought the backstory for the Stitcher was very well done and I liked that it wasn't just a random magic occurrence.
Cons - The group of kids were so determined to tell everyone else their rules to stay alive, but didn't like to follow them themselves. I also wish we got more time with the Stitcher. They were so creepy and I'd love more detail about them.

Follow the rules and you might be safe from the Stitcher! This book seemed to drag on for me. It was ok and definitely had a horror vibe. I felt like this book could have been shorter or give the story more action.

Disappointing

Missed opportunities for character development and examination, incongruities in plot and characters make dumb choices at key moments. Such a good set-up with unrealized potential.
