Darcy Coates is an author who's been on my radar a long time but I never managed to actually pick up one of her books 'til I grabbed this one the other day. But I'm so glad I started with this one because it was absolutely thrilling and so gut-churningly creepy. I loved the illustrations, I loved the rhymes, I loved the aura of menace. I do wish the characters had had more personality but that's a small complaint in such an excellent horror novel. If you've ever wanted to mix the vibes of the first season of Hannibal with IT, this might be right up your alley.

This was perfectly spooky, creepy, and mysterious. It gave me Goonie vibes with a supernatural and ancient serial killer. The first part of the book was a little slow, setting everything up but it quickly started picking up about halfway through part 2. I loved all of the lore behind The Stitcher, the town of Doubtful, and the mines.
