The imagery was very well-written, and I especially liked the relationship among the kids, but this was missing something for me. The pacing also seemed off. Instead of being vague in an enticing mysterious way, the beginning dragged.
WHOA. This was an insane read. I’m shocked this is considered ya, this book had me genuinely scared. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I have so many thoughts about this book that I’m trying to gather. I love the friendships, how deeply they care for each other and how fiercely protective of each other they are. How they would follow each other to the ends of the earth, or more accurately into the depths of the abandoned underground mines beneath their town for each other.
The suspense and horror is well done here. There were multiple scenes I found myself holding my breath or feeling goosebumps and pure unease and queasiness.
The reason I just can’t give this 5 stars is I personally just felt the end (that last chapter mainly) was the tiniest bit unfinished and almost rushed. I know we got the origin story of the stitcher, but I would’ve liked just a little more. I also felt Abby’s mother’s story was underwhelming and the explanation of why she was the way she was just wasn’t satisfying enough. If anything it only left me with more questions.
Regardless, amazing read overall.

3.5 ⭐️ stars out of 5. I've read a couple books by Darcy Coates and this was my least favorite. Some things that happened didn't quite add up - especially with Abby's mother. I was left confused by what happened to her at the end of the book. How did she have the red threads in her to begin with? Was it because her husband was killed by the Stitcher? I'm honestly still not sure.

Omg what a crazy ass ride!!! This book was pretty insane from the start! Super creepy and absolutely addicting!!!! I had so much fun reading this book! I will definitely be checking out more by this author, this was the first one I’ve read by her! And I am so happy I got buddy read it with one of my besties!!! Thanks for reading this one with me Robin!! I can’t wait to try some more Darcy Coates!!!
