This was the PERFECT autumn/spooky season read 👏🏽 So atmospheric, super spooky + downright chilling in parts. Think.. the perfect book blend of Stranger Things + IT.

I picked this up based on the super unique cover + didn’t realise until I started researching reviews that this is actually classified as a YA horror—— the horror element definitely keeps it from feeling too young + it was still super enjoyable, but I felt the characterisation (although brilliantly written) was for sure aimed towards the younger audience.

After a steadier start, the plot became more + more intriguing as it progressed, culminating in a super satisfying ending. I loved that the whole way throughout the book, we were never really sure if the ‘stitcher’ was supernatural or a plain old human serial killer, and this kept me on the edge of my seat + absolutely captivated.

Parts were actually really dark + quite descriptive, if you have a low tolerance for gore (like me🥲). I’d recommend picking this up if you’re looking for a brilliantly plotted, chilling + suspenseful spooky read that will have you feeling claustrophobic + on edge!

Where He Can’t Find You is a strong competitor for my favorite Darcy Coates book. It takes place in a town called Doubtful, where people go missing and no one looks for them. They just wait for the bodies to show up. The bodies show up with pieces missing and put back together with red thread. Electronics don’t work right there. The Jackrabbits, a group of friends, have simple rules to stay safe. Don’t go out at night. Travel in pairs. The town doesn’t talk about The Stitcher, the name they have given the serial killer in their midst. But when Abby’s sister, Hope, gets taken, the friends refuse to wait to find her body. The Jackrabbits go searching for her and for the secrets hidden behind years of Doubtful’s lore. This book is so creepy. My copy has illustrations every few hundred pages that made it even creepier. I loved the feel of this story and how it kept me in suspense. It is reminiscent of Stephen King’s world-building, with a Stranger Things feel. I felt the fear and dread that these characters exuded. Definitely would recommend and will read again. It doesn’t feel at all like a young adult story. 5/5 stars
