Beth Revis will never be able to write enough about the characters from her Across the Universe trilogy to satisfy me. Seriously. I love each and every one of her characters. The good ones, the strange ones, and yes, even the twisted ones. They are each such integral parts of the overall story and world Revis has created.

When I heard she was writing a novella about characters that appeared in book one, [b:Across the Universe|8235178|Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1)|Beth Revis|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348085121s/8235178.jpg|13082532], I was really excited. I wanted a chance to go back and visit Godspeed before all the crazy shit happened. Getting to be with Harley, Orion, Luthor, etc again was a dream.

Reading this novella was wonderful, but upon completion I was again saddened about the fact that the trilogy is over. Oh well, there are always re-reads to be completed!

I love that it's written from Selenes point of view and that it explains her relationship to Luthor. Otherwise it's a nice read but nothing outstanding.

I'm ashamed to say that I've had Across the Universe on my bookshelf for months and months. I thought I would finally start this series and started with As They Slip Away, which is a free short story prequel.

The short story tells of Godspeed, the ship on its way to a better world, and about a few patients in the Hospital, in particular about their skills.

While the short story was a little sad... C'mon it says "Three Months Before I Die" at the start! It was a really good intro to the series and it made me crave the start of Across the Universe.

I love science fiction but I haven't read a lot of young adult scifi, so I'm definitely more than eager to start this series. I'm looking forward to seeing how some of these characters play into the bigger story.

As They Slip Away is free to read (http://www.scribd.com/doc/119788927/As-They-Slip-Away) and likely will make most scifi fans craving to read this series.

I don't know what to think. This is the story of the rabbit girl in Across the Universe. I am curious about what this has to do with the trilogy overall, but at the same time I am almost scared to find out.

While this short story was alright, it was really predictable if you read the other books in the series. I feel like it didn't add much overall because it didn't reveal any new information about the ship or anything besides the background story of a minor background character. If you read the books, you know Luthor is awful and creepy and nothing in this story comes as a surprise.

It was so great to get to read this and step back into this world for just a moment. It was also really interesting to see the world from Selene's perspective - and see a different side of Harley and to meet some of the characters of the the story we didn't know.

Luther. That guy STILL sucks, though.

Wow. I just finished reading As They Slip Away, and that’s the only word I can think of. If you’re looking for something to read this weekend, this is it! It’s a 48 page novella in the Across the Universe series, the final book of which comes out in just a few days! You can download the novella for free and transfer it to your Kindle or Nook, or you can simply read it on the website.

The novella gives us a glimpse of both the most beloved character and the most despised character in the Across the Universe series. The story takes place through the eyes of Selene, whom we barely meet in the first novel before she is brutally raped and murdered. As They Slip Away is the tragic story of her beautiful voice and how it was stolen from her by Luthor.

Most importantly, As They Slip Away addresses a sad truth in our world: how rape is handled, or rather ignored. Practically nothing is done about Selene's rape because the leaders--the men--of the ship view her as useless. It doesn't matter that she's a human being whose rights were violated and whose innocence was ripped away from her. All the leaders are concerned about is what value she can bring to the ship, and since all she can do is sing, which is useless aboard a spaceship where the population is drugged, Selene's injustice is all but ignored.

I’m so glad Beth Revis released this the week before Shades of Earth comes out because it reminded me of a lot of the events in the previous two books, and now I can’t wait to find out what happens in the final novel!

Interesting but rather disturbing short story giving us a little more insight to life in the hospital and on the ship.
